The top link Forum Discovery leads to a dead website and flags me an Avast warning.

I've tried replicating this on two devices with and without a VPN, but both are Chrome. Could you please provide more details on it and perhaps a screenshot along with the certificate that it's using (perhaps could be cached on your end)?

The sequence was,....

Browsed administrata for a bit earlier,

Then I was back on my forum, but I got tied up and let it sit for a few seconds on the screen.

When I looked up all of a sudden avast popped up. The warning specifically said the domain I referenced.

I hadn't visited that domain.

After that I returned to administrata specifically to inspect that domain I recognised as one of the top links.

I visited the link, and as noted it has an xf closed account page.

Just telling it like it happened as weird as it is sounding. It was on my primary system and am on my phone atm. I will check in the morning to see if avast left it in the logs. And no, I haven't replicated it again.

Strange, just hit the domain again and the website is up.

Well, it's an FYI only I guess.

I also tried to replicate this as soon as I saw the thread posted this morning, but couldn't replicate. ForumDiscovery and the link in the topbar worked for me at all times and still does now, I've not seen any issues.

A quick Google search does bring up a lot of blog posts and discussions of Avast false positives, so it could be an issue like that if you've not seen any problems since.

Avast tends to do that once in a while. We had a similar case a while back. A hiccup, nothing more. But I do appreciate the report.

Guess I’ll block frm and the his website FD today just to be sure. 🤣

I found the event log for yesterday, and it seems the favicon was flagged, todays just lists the domain.

That gave me a clue as to what might've happened. Thanks for the information as I now have a digital trail to follow! :)

One last piece, I do not have avast chrome browser extension installed. Don't know if it matters.

Nope. It looks like (maliciously) reporting ta site is good enough to get on the blacklist, which you cannot get off of, causing irreparable harm.

That's all that I need to know to investigate further. Thanks!

I will mark this as resolved now, but feel free to report back if there's any issues. :)

Instead of pursuing this matter further than necessary, I decided to purchase ForumDirectory.com.

It's a more authoritative name and is an Exact Match Domain (EMD) for its purpose.

But, please report any errors as, with the purchase price, I will go to scorched Earth (as I had planned to do, but held it off as this was already in negotiations).
