I agree with this. Yes, there may be a lot of the same niche or themes but sometimes competition is good. However, if every forum you go on seems to be the same threads and the same posts then really it can seem boring and overdone.
Strong communities are built on shared goals and trust.

I think competition is always good if it is done in a healthy way. The world is big and it is absolutely possible to co-exist. Unhealthy competition can be very bad not only for the forum owners but also staff and general users. I know how bad it can be because I have been a victim of unhealthy competition. I was removed from a staff position from a forum without any reasons and without asking for explanation just because I also posted on the rival forum. Unhealthy competition can take a nasty turn.

I think it might be on par with sports and music forums. Both are highly competitive niches, which makes them a lot more fun.
The gaming industry is a broad niche because it involves so many different games and consoles. This means there are plenty of areas to explore and cover within the niche.
