Advice Forum Software, Revamping a Site? (4 Viewers)

For general guidance or feedback requests.
That's true. I am a part of a forum called Bitcointalk (I am not active though). It is build on SMF and it is the largest forums I have ever seen (apart from Reddit and Quora). Software is just a frame work, it is your niche and content quality that really matters. However, for most of us becoming successful with free software is very difficult. I ran a SMF forum for two years and yet I had less than 50 members and 1000 posts. Two months ago, I moved to Xenforo and now the forum has hit 3k posts.
I've seen a forum hosted on Proboards that has thousands of members and is quite active. It's a community based around hacking the fan port of Sonic 3 and Knuckles to pc called Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited. If you put the effort into your forum the software shouldn't matter that much. Though paid scripts usually do have better SEO tools.

Those most be very old forums, maybe from the era when social apps like tiktok did not exist and video broadcasting was not a thing on Facebook and Instagram. I haven't seen any free hosted or open source forums created in recent times with a huge audience and activities.

I don't particularly care about having a massive population on my forum. All I want is like between 5 and 20 people posting one to five posts weekly. I want a community or like minded individuals. I believe, that ultimately, that's what we as forum administrators desire.

I finally was able to buy a XenForo license. Now I've gotta wait like two hours to upload?! Saturday nights must be really busy or something, because this is only like 60MB.

And thus begins yet another grand, and new adventure!

Actually, it's not as old as you think. It started as a Discord server and moved to a forum lol. The mod came out sometime in the mid 10's.

Awesome I look forward to seeing your community running Xenforo and seeing all the changes it'll bring!

It's a lot more complicated to configure than SMF, that's for sure. Like just figuring out how to set up an image banner for the header is giving me a headache! LOL But Aurora looks good!

Style properties, upload the logo, and remove the text logo. The image will then show up.

Congratulations on purchasing your XF license! I can't wait to see what you're able to do with XF.

I think I found the spot. It's kinda confusing because I have like two areas for header. But despite my settings, all I have is this tiny banner. I'm sure I'm missing something:
