Do you think Google search will ever be knocked off the top spot?

Google is Goliath when it comes to web searching. It's so synonymous with searching the web that people even use the brand name as a verb; "Just Google it!" - "I googled them last night".

It's hard to imagine not having Google search available (because we all use it so widely) but do you think we'll see a time when someone (or something) will come along and knock them off the top spot? Do you think there's any chance that they'll eventually overstep the mark on people's privacy or data warehousing that governments will taken them down or break up the various divisions, leading to a reduction or collapse of their search service?

Or is Google going to be around for hundreds of years like many of the historical institutions that still exist today?

Definitely not, because it is king, to put it simply. Even though people use DuckDuckGo to avoid being tracked while they're searching for something on it...

I've never even tried DuckDuckGo. Google has no real competitors. All other search engines are irrelevant.

Google will remain the #1 search engine forever. No other company will ever take its crown. With the rise of AI-powered search systems, Google has already adapted by integrating AI overviews alongside its traditional search engine.

Google overtook Ask Jeeves and Yahoo back in the day through innovation and uniqueness, and if another company were capable of surpassing Google, it would have happened already.

Bing essentially reverse-engineers Google's system. DuckDuckGo sources its results from Bing and Yandex, along with its own crawler and analysis. Bing also powers Yahoo's search engine. Google currently controls 89-90% of the search engine market share as well. Which goes to show you, it takes multiple companies just to try and "compete" against the powerhouse that Google has become.

Last year, ChatGPT was the 15th most visited site in the world. Now it’s #5.

It just passed Reddit, Amazon, and Whatsapp, and it’s still climbing. Every other site in the top 10 is falling. Wikipedia is down nearly 6% in a single month (from March to April).

Chatgpt is steady rising while Google is on the decline.

It is now looking like we may see Google get knocked off its throne if they’re unable to do something with their search engine relatively soon, especially with more users using Chatgpt for searching these days.

This is kind of concerning, seeing AI climb to the top makes me a bit uneasy about the future. We're already seeing AI take jobs from people, I suppose it's only a matter of time before more and more people rely on ChatGPT's search engine over Google. Is it as reliable as Google? Probably not in it's current state which means people might be lead down a path where they get false information.
