From time to time, Google releases a spam update to its search engine, which results in some websites being deemed spam by Google and subsequently losing their rankings.

 

Google says that this spam update will take a week to roll out, but it may take longer.

Websites that notice changes following a spam update should review our spam policies to ensure compliance. In the case of a link spam update, changes might not lead to immediate improvement. This is because our systems neutralize the impact of spammy links, removing any ranking benefits those links might have previously conferred on your site.

Google’s updates generally take longer than a week though. It always just a basic estimate time frame on their part.

 

If you’re seeing ranking changes now, I’d recommend waiting a week or two to make changes until the update is fully rolled out and completed.
