When it comes to watching movies or TV series, do you like doing so with the use of subtitles even when the movie or TV show was in English language?

Personally, I enjoy using subtitles at all times because it increases my focus on whatever I'm watching.

Do you like using subtitles?

Honestly, no, but it is the only way I can understand movies, documentaries, series or anime that are not in my language.
I like watching stuff with subtitles on after the first time I watch it, so that I can understand the dialogue a bit better.

I often do. Partially it means that if I'm not focusing on something explicitly I can still glance over and understand what's been going on if I've tuned out the actual words (one of the reasons I don't do audiobooks is because I tune out the audio more often than not)

But also because modern TV has such weird biases in recording. In the same way 'dark' is the new 'brightly lit' in cinematography, 'whisper' is the new 'volume' in TV - and it's not because I have auditory processing issues. I have old TV series on iTunes - stuff from the 1960s and 1970s, and stuff from this decade, and the audio balances are off, and the lighting etc makes everything darker for no good reason.

Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

Always, ever since I was a teen staying up way too late during summer vacation. I couldn't have my TV too loud otherwise it'd wake my parents so I used subtitles instead :P

I don't know when it happened, but eventually I just prefer to have it on when I'm watching Netflix. Some scenes are quieter than others and I feel like I might miss something. I never liked how they looked like on cable TV, and that's the only thing that stops me from using subtitles - if it is too bulky/distracting.
I don't like subtitles, I feel it distracts me from the visuals and I'm not much of a reader.

I always have them on. Sometimes there are other things going on that overrides the volume.

Sometimes it feels like I'm not hearing the actor's dialogue well especially when it's faster. But with subtitles, it makes me follow up well.

I do quite a bit. I think it's my excuse to read a little bit.

I love writing. I write every day. But I never make time to read, and I need to do that more.

Subtitles allow me a little time to read :)

This is an honest truth and I do it all the time. If I find it very difficult to pick up a book to read, it's never difficult for me to read what's on screen in subtitles. I enjoy doing it.

I'm a little hard of hearing so I always put on subtitles. It helps me understand the plot of the movie better.

Yes, I always use subtitles, especially when watching British documentaries and movies. Their accents can be tricky to understand sometimes. They eat words by

speaking lol

True! I like having the subtitles on because I'll usually watch something multiple times. Every time, it's like watching the show for the first time again, because I'm always noticing something new. Besides, my Japanese comprehension just sucks!

Nope, has to be an English language show. Can't read them fast enough. My husband on the other hand watches all different languages.
