It's an almighty torch to pass on - and even though I only hit a fraction of that in my SMF modding time, I can relate to it not being easy to do. Though I didn't pass on my torch because of not having the time or feeling Father Time around the corner, I just hit a point of 'this isn't me now'.

Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

oh wow, but why he is leaving? Any personal reasons? I don't know him much but I think I have seen his fee plugins on the official Xenforo board.

Ahh I just went to that link you posted, such a legacy, superb guy with amazing work he has done for XF but he knows better what is a good time to say "good bye" such a shame, everything ends at one stage in our life. It can be work related or relationships, time flies, things change and friends leave :(

oh you were plugin developer for SMF? amazing. Have you tried it for Xenforo? Or you have completely stopped it?

I released over 100 plugins for SMF in my time, including the helpdesk actually used on the main SMF site for the paying members.

I haven't done a plugin in a while mostly because a lot of the last few years went into a specific niche fork of SMF that for complicated reasons I stopped working on.

I'm debating writing plugins for XF but then I get into the hassle of maintaining them for people not me, and I had some pretty bad experiences in the SMF world with this.

I think on that regards XF is a bit better than SMF. But still I understand your struggle, since most humans don't exactly have the most patience, and don't understand you have a job outside making and supporting add ons.

Wow, that's an impressive track record! Releasing over 100 plugins, especially the one used on the main SMF site, shows real dedication. I totally understand the hesitation when it comes to maintaining plugins, especially after dealing with difficult experiences. It can be frustrating when the focus shifts from development to support.

That said, it's great to see you're still considering contributing to the XF community! If you do decide to dive into it, I think your experience would bring a lot of value. I can imagine that finding the right balance between creating and maintaining can be tough, but your expertise is clearly something many would appreciate.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and hopefully, if you decide to create something for XF, it goes much smoother this time around! :)

I really like Ozzy. He's friendly and easy to get along with.

He's also a wonderful developer.

Unless he good financially and wants to do other things, if I was him, I'd only develop addons that people are paying him to make. Not the paid addons anyone can buy and download, either. I'm talking about big paid addon jobs, custom stuff.

This guy has left a legacy. It's sad to see him go, but I can understand where he's coming from. Thankfully, he found a right-hand man to take over his work for the better good!
