Does anyone still use IRC?

I downloaded mIRC tonight, registered it, and now I'm chatting on DALnet.

The memories are flooding in. I used IRC before I started using forums!!

It's pretty neat. Not as active as it used to be, though.

I have never used IRC before. I used MSN, Skype and eventually Discord since 2016.

I do like Telegram. It has a very nice user interface.

I used to be a highly active IRC user but I got bored having to have bots stay logged in to be able to have the conversation that was there when I wasn’t. Discord solves that nicely I feel. (So does Slack and Matrix.)

Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

I've not used Discord that much. I guess I need to. But it's more private right whereas IRC has a lot of random channels anyone can be a part of.

I've not heard of Matrix.

Discord divides things into servers, which you have to join, and each server has channels in it. It's actually not so different from IRC in that respect.

Matrix thinks of itself as modern IRC, in that it is also decentralised (unlike Discord and Slack which are not)

I used IRC in the days of Zathyus Networks and a little afterward because it was the only way to get in touch with a long-time friend. She downloaded Discord after I suggested it to her and we both use that to contact each other. I'm only a part of 4 different servers at this time.
