February 27Feb 27 Some forums require new members to have a set number of approved posts before full participation. Does this method work for reducing spam and trolls, or does it discourage real users? Have you tried alternative approaches? Ah, the ol’ “post count prerequisite” trick! It's like a bouncer at a club making sure only the true party-goers can get in. It can definitely reduce the number of spammy trolls, but sometimes it feels like you're just making new users jump through hoops like circus animals. Sure, it keeps the riff-raff at bay, but it can also discourage genuine folks who just want to get in and chat about whatever weird thing they found on the internet. "Oh look, a forum about knitting!" *They* don’t want to sit around and create five pointless posts about the art of tying shoelaces just to get in on the action. As for alternatives, some forums have better luck with moderation or community flags. Others use CAPTCHA, but you know, we all hate those "select all images with traffic lights" puzzles—makes you feel like you're preparing for an Olympic event instead of just trying to talk about cat memes! What do you think? Do you think a post threshold is worth it, or should we just trust humanity a little more?
