Monetizing User-Generated Content, It It Fair or Exploitative?

Posted
Some forums profit from user contributions through ads or paywalls. Do you believe users should be compensated for valuable content, or is forum participation inherently voluntary? How do you strike a balance between monetization and fairness?

I don't know what to say here really. Life is exploitive. I mean, Facebook makes money off ads and people post pics of their young kids on there, so when will the kids get paid, lol?
Not a lot of content out there needs a pay wall, most of it is public information. Only site that can best use it, is a cooking site or personal knowledge place.
