Posted May 4May 4 Content Team Do you have a system for keeping track of where your money goes each month? Like, do you use an app, a spreadsheet, or just kind of keep a mental note of what you're spending on? I usually don't track my spending very closely.
May 4May 4 I do not. I keep checking my bank account and slow my spending based on how much is left there. If I were in a more independent standing, I might do this.
May 4May 4 Content Team I don't but I honestly should get an app or start up a spreadsheet. I need to learn to budget my money better. I know there's apps like Rocket Money that helps you find subscriptions you're not using that you might have forgotten about and helps budget your money.
May 4May 4 I primarily use a spreadsheet and I track all my income and expenditures down the penny. I've also been known at times to use a database and budgeting software to help me find patterns and flag unnecessary spending. Living so close to zero, budgeting like this is a necessity, much like breathing. And while I have managed to build a tiny buffer in food stores, a critical error on my calculations could cost significantly.

That's smart.. But don't you think checking your bank all the time maybe make you feel stressed? It's great for spending less but sometimes it might feel like too much..

May 6May 6 Honestly no. I am bad at budgeting, but I do keep my expenses separate for my business transactions.
May 6May 6 But don't you think checking your bank all the time maybe make you feel stressed? I use an iOS app to check my account balance, and I don't even have to log in all the time with their "quick balance" feature that allows me to scroll from the top of my screen to check my account balance. No stress at all.

But as you said you keep your business expenses separate it is a great first step though.. It makes tracking much easier.

I check my bank balance as well. It helps me keep track of my spending and it doesn’t make feel stressed. It helps me keep things balanced. I don’t keep a budget. As long as my bills as paid and I still have my money to spend, I’m content for the month. I’ve been saving more as of late.
