If you can't already tell (by my profile, avatar, signature, and grand entrance), I'm an avid [table top / Play by Post] role playing freak. I love creative writing, specializing within the fictitious world of anime, manga, and my rotten imagination.

 

I figured I'd join up, because I'm a sucker for joining communities, especially in 2025, during our epidemic of loneliness. And because I'm trying to kick a dead horse (aka my forum) back on to life support, I see value here. I've browsed around and see some topics that I'm itching to reply to! So I'll attempt to be a good girl and post responsibly.

Okay, first of all — A+ entrance. Dramatic flair, RPG references, anime love and some self-aware forum humour? You’re definitely among kindred spirits here.

 

It’s awesome to have another creative mind in the mix, especially one who appreciates the magic of Play-by-Post (a sadly underrated art form these days!). I’m also loving the honesty about the “dead horse” revival mission, you are absolutely not alone in that, and honestly, that's part of what makes communities like this so special. We're all in this weird, wonderful forum world together, trying to keep the torches lit.

Have you created a sitemap and added it to Google search console? It'll help you get your site's content indexed and crawled a lot faster. I'd also recommend adding it to Bing webmaster's tools as well. Also, if you use Twitter, you can share your topics on there, or Threads(facebook's apps) along with Bluesky and get some social backlinks. Retweets/likes have a indirect impact on your seo results as well, Google takes that in account as well.

 

I'd also recommend sharing a couple of posts to tumblr and build a few backlinks like that. It's a good way to get some nice backlinks. Go Kick their butt!;)

I've created a SiteMap (automatically using the Optimus Mod for SMF), and I've tried social networking posts, both direct, and indirectly by casually bringing up my forum. Nodda. Looks like I only did half of what I was supposed to with the sitemap thing though. I'll look into the Google Console stuff.

Even the bigger anime forums, like Anime Suki don't seem to have too much activity anymore. The Mega Platforms nabbed most of the Otaku. And I can't stand places like FB groups, because of all the disorganized chaos. I imagine the same topics are brought up time and time again, and worse, older stuff is forgotten in the feed of the ancient past, never to be read aloud again. It's so heartbreaking! Sure, there's search, but honestly, who on FB or Reddit actually uses Search while on the platform within the group(s)? I never do, anyway.

 

Anyway, that's part of the reason why I created my site. Not only to share my passion of anime and role playing, to find gaming buddies--other creative minds, but also as an act of preservation from an ancient time upon the Internet--that of the Anime Fan Club boards.

It’s crazy how Reddit kills forums and how Google just adores it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google tries to buy Reddit one day. They're now using them in their Gemini feature. Reddit's visibility over the years also gave community owners, an advantage as in the past, forums weren't ranking well at all. Blogs were out ranking every single site on the internet more than anything else, however, now forums are generally displayed in the top 1-10 rankings on most keywords.

User generated content is the main thing that Google prefers and the structure that Reddit has, forums have that as well. They'll also be a day when Google will no longer love Reddit. It has happened in the past to other sites.

This looks like an interesting article, and I'd read it, but it's Medium, and although I already have an account there, I don't have the funds to reactivate my membership. So, I guess I'll just have to fake the SEO more (as Alex did).

 

In the meantime, I guess I'll fight with this new Wiki I've installed... so that I can continue working in Scrivener and write my ultimate crossover fan-fiction! So that I can post it on my fanfiction, SubStack accounts and on my forum.... Jeez, my life is complicated.

At least SPAM bots post something. More likely, they're just Archive-bots scraping your site for AI or something. LOL
