  • xAI raised $6 billion at $40 billion valuation, sources say

March 28 (Reuters) - Elon Musk said on Friday that his xAI has acquired X, the social media app formerly known as Twitter, in an all-stock transaction for $45 billion, including debt.

"xAI and X's futures are intertwined. Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent," Musk said in a post on X, adding that the combined company would be valued at $80 billion.

The billionaire's AI startup, which was launched in 2023, recently raised $6 billion from investors at a valuation of $40 billion, sources have told Reuters.

Thats the only way he could get the valuation out of x for what it cost him to buy it. And it was straight stock swap purchase. The value is now in the private company X.ai . AND x.ai has the largest ai supercomputer in the world now I think.

Now couple all that with all the financial and personal data now available to musk, they are going to know ALL about you and profile you to the T.

I tend to err on the side that those profiles already exist. There’s not been true privacy for a very long time.

What I wonder when I read this is if Musk had to pay taxes on selling the company to himself? I mean, I'm sure he can afford enough lawyers to wriggle out of any financial obligations with some legalese, but it's the most interesting thing about this story in general to me.

I doubt he had to pay any taxes. Though I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of confused on this whole situation. :V
