Stickying a thread is a powerful tool - it highlights important content and ensures it stays visible for your community. When do you think is the right time to give a member’s thread that special status? What criteria do you follow, if any?

Admins aren’t experts on everything, and sometimes members bring more insights or better knowledge to the table. If a thread provides useful knowledge that benefits the entire community, I’ll often sticky it. Not only does this keep the information accessible, but it also recognizes the member’s contribution, which can encourage others to step up and share their expertise. Of course, it can also stir up mixed reactions - some users might feel motivated to contribute more, while others might get defensive or competitive.

So, what’s your approach? Do you have specific criteria for stickying member threads? Is it based on engagement, quality of content, or something else entirely?

I've never set myself a specific criteria for what threads I'd consider stickying.

My policy has always been that, if a thread seems helpful to a wide portion of the community, or is an extremely popular thread in a particular section, I'll often sticky it. Sometimes I'll replace/cycle stickies in certain sections if there's a few that are deserving of a prominent spot, just so as not to clog up the forum page and take away from the general importance of a sticky thread.

I don't have an exact method that I use to sticky a topic. If I feel that it deserves attention and should be stickied, I'll pin it to the top. Whether it's by a new member, older member or not. I do it randomly, especially as a rewarding method for my members.

It's something that I've been doing for quite sometime. There are some threads that can just be general chit chat, but are more engaging than others and I'll still sticky it for a while.

Anything that is important for all members to have at their fingertips, or constantly talked about topics (for example, I've seen on other forums posts about "What if .... ?" and it's not necessary to create yet another topic regarding the subject matter, should get a Sticky.
