Hello guys. There is a forum owner of this forum: https://eutm.com/forum/

It is currently set on read-only mode by the owner because she has some private business to do and dealing with forum comes very hard for her. I offered her to help her out in terms of boosting productivity and stuff like that but she told me:

If you want to try to get the forum running on the new server, I’ll keep it going for a while longer. The way things are in the U.S. now, I’m almost afraid to operate a witchcraft site in my name. And I assume the government can easily get past the domain privacy services. I suppose they have bigger fish to fry at the moment, what with destroying the government and kicking all the brown folk out of the country, but I’m sure they’d love to fry the witches too, when they get around to it. I don’t feel so strongly about witchcraft that I’m willing to go to prison or be killed over it. I stopped practicing years ago.

Anyway, The issue with forum installation is that my database is apparently massive, which is ridiculous because it’s only 70 MB or something like that. But it apparently requires special skills and software to restore it. Although sometimes it’s possible to restore it without special skills. I guess it depends on how the server is feeling at the moment. The database is already uploaded to MySQL. I’ve just not been successful with attaching it back to the forum, which has been updated to the latest version, which could be causing problems, even though the versions are not that far apart. I managed to get it working on my PC, but then the software that was enabling it to run stopped working. So I attempted to reinstall it to my new host. I have at least three different installations and all of them have failed to connect to the database

I am unsure what she means by this and how can I set it to new server because I have never done this part this before. But I do want to colab with her. She also added:

I could also ask my host to get it up and running. They seem to be pretty helpful with things like that and I don’t think they even charge for it because they’re so glad to have Go Daddy‘s customers.

You can easily move the website by compressing it to a zip file or something similar. Download the zip file, extract it on the new server. As for the database, first of all, 70MB seems a bit low for that amount of posts. I'm guessing it's more 70GB, depending on the attachments. But if you use cPanel, you can easily download the database and import it on the new server. Then you point the domain to the new server/nameservers and wait for DNS to change over. That's it.

It's peanuts really, I've done it countless times. So if you need help, feel free to ask.

Yes it is, but that first time is a nail-biter.

I will see if she is ok to go on the current server. If not, I assume she has to pay for a new one, yes?

I think she means that you can continue on a different server, under your name and funds.

She mentioned :

The website has already been moved to the new host. GoDaddy had become overpriced.

I don't think she assumes I will pay because she wants the forum running but due to little activity and very little time to handle it, she kind a quit. But I suggested to her not to do so because there are means to advertise it, ask on different forums for packages, daily post exchanges etc. Boost some activity.

So the problem is that the forum is broken. But broken how? What needs to be done to restore it?
  • Administrators
Seems that there might be some broken topics yeah. Did the database ever get corrupted ?

Once more, I am unsure. I just started message exchange today with her. I still need to discuss this extra.

If she's worried that the US government is going to take down the forum and if you get things squared away I highly recommend using offshore hosting. People think it's bad because people use it for DMCA ignoring sites, but if it's hosted offshore there's literally nothing the US government can do about it. Just some food for thought. I hope you can figure things out, there's plenty of people here who have moved websites from one host to another, I'm one of those people btw.

It's very easy to download a backup, and install a site on a new server. I've done it countless times.

The owner should already be downloading regular backups. It's risky not too, you can lose all your hard work.

She should just zip the files, export the database through cPanel and upload those two files on the new server.

Then you'll need to edit the config file so that the database is correctly pointed on the new server. She also must not forget to make a database user and give the correct rights.

It seems that she's making a bit of a mess where there shouldn't be any. She's probably lacking the knowledge to do it, but it normally isn't a difficult job.

I am unsure if she is going for a new server now, I think it is on the same one, maybe? She just kept the OG version read-only but wanted a copy of it running (for some reason). Now, she has a hard time doing that. Does your answer change based on what i just said or?

No, I’m getting really confused here. 🤣 What does she want to do? Move it, not move it, restore it?

Trust me, at this point I am getting confused as well. First, she was telling me she is afraid that Trump administration may ban the forum considering they started really harsh on banning things. So she doesn't want to be involved in any lawsuit or whatever. She wanted to move to another server. I am unsure if she still does want that.

She has some experience with it because she had to do this for years but clearly not as much as you do. Do you want me to add you in our CC?

Trump isn't going to ban the forum. It's a peanut to what he is involved in. Why would he care about a few online users? She shouldn't be worrying about that. If anything, I think she's a bit paranoid in that aspect. First I'd ask her what her goal is. Does she want to continue, on a new server or not? Or does she want to hand it over to someone else, like yourself?

Do you want me to join us in a new email chat or? I feel like a middle man with a very slow communication system.

She thinks like that because the forum is related to paganism , witchcraft and Trump and his party are all pro Christianity. I know she is paranoid, clearly.

What's in it for you though? Do you want to continue the forum? Will she let you?

I mean, I don't know the person. I don't mind helping you out, but this is all quite confusing and it seems she doesn't know what she wants? So I'm unsure whether or not I want to continue investing my time in this.

  • Author
In it for me? Just the joy of making the forum running again. No financial gain or whatsoever. I know she is busy with some other project and she is, I assume, fine to let somebody else make it work, but not taking the ownership of it.

Feel free to add me in CC, I'll see what I can do, before I lose hope. :D :ROFLMAO:
