Most of us who have been running forums for a long time know that growing them isn't and will never be an overnight process.

It takes work. Hard work. Sometimes you have to bust your butt to make a forum work.

When you do this, and it starts to all come together, how does it make you feel?

Personally, I love the feeling I get from watching a forum at 0 posts 0 members grow to a community, big and small, where you can expect new content the next day.

Do you feel that way, too, or is not that big of a deal for you?

It takes more than hard work. You must be dedicated, forums usually grow slow unless you have a great promotion strategy, and a budget to advertise.

You also need to stay motivated to update your community on a daily basis at least that's my approach with my forum. I consider it my hobby/job that will pay my bills in the future.

I grown my forum for free in a lot of ways, but I do pay/invest with on going promotions to help my community reach new heights.

I am having this problem with my forum right now.

Starting a new general discussion forum is one of the hardest ones as there's a lot of these forums about.

The only way of me getting user activity at the moment is doing forum exchanges which is helps a lot.

Even if it takes me a few years to get my forum active I'll do it. :)

I feel that this is the best way to get your community to grow and keep growing! I continue to do this though I need to do it more often than I do. I used to give up right away when working on forums when I was younger since I wouldn't give it time to grow and I also didn't know how to promote my sites either. I used Facebook mainly, which that won't get you anything it seems.

When I see daily log-ins and members actively posting around the board it feels like a great accomplishment, knowing I shaped the foundation for something successful.

This is a good feeling, but also tracking analytics encourages me to do more.

I've only just started tracking ahrefs DR, but I went from 1.8, 1.9, 2.4, 2.7, and when I started actually logging it, from 3.9 to 4.1 over 2 days. Hopefully, I can crack 20 soon to rank even better. Other analytics such as impressions and clicks (for a CTR) make me examine what could be done differently on individual pages to get a constant flow of better traffic there, and apply the same principles learned elsewhere.

It's a constant evolution, but as you said, it takes time.

Admittedly, I've had help from older domains that are being redirected to here.

Yeah that could help.

I'm slowly building thousands of backlinks, so I'll be up there in time.

First to DR 70 (where it really counts)? 🤔 💰

Deal. The loser hands over their forum.

I was thinking like $25 cause your DR is 25.

But if you're serious, I'm going to bed and might sleep on it.

Just to give you time to think, too: I did black hat and grey hat SEO far before I took the legitimate route and may or may not possess tools with Rumer in its name. ;)

No, I'm kidding, lmao. I wouldn't bet money on it, because I'm sure you'll do anything to win. 😂

The dr doesn’t really matter as it’s not a metric that Google takes in count with its rankings.

It’s a metric that Ahrefs developed and doesn’t have an effect on the core rankings.🤔

Domain Rating (DR) is a proprietary SEO metric by Ahrefs. It represents the strength of the website’s backlink profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100, with the latter being the strongest.

Domain Rating is widely used in the SEO community to evaluate link-building opportunities and estimate the website’s authority gained via backlinks.

These are the systems that Google uses for their rankings:

They don't, but it gives you a clearer idea of how Google sees it, as they use a proprietary ranking algorithm on Google and these metrics are the closest you'll get at understanding Google SERPs.

And that’s exactly why metrics like Domain Authority or Domain Rating exist.

Google may not use them, but we can use them to emulate PageRank.
