Who is your preferred host, or what hosts would you recommend to someone looking for hosting?

Featured Replies

I've used one called WebHost Python for the past year and never really have run into any issues. The one time they did have an issue I was credited one free month as compensation.

That's good, sounds like they take care of their customers!

Mddhosting has been my go to hosting provider for years and I’m still pretty fond of them.

However, I’m going to start using Ushost247 soon.

I’m also pretty fond of Knownhost as well. I’ve had a few servers from them in the past.

For many users I used to recommend Linode but they got bought out. Then I started using Cloudways, then they got bought out.

These days I mostly use Kinsta at work and Crocweb/Cloudways/DigitalOcean for home stuff.

Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

I remember when you used Linode.

I've always used Dreamhost myself. More than 15 years. They get a lot of flack but have always treated me right. They're also quick to give me support and they even explain to me what happened if I get downtime.

a VPS is my preferred host anything that would give you full root access.

I've used a couple hosts over the years, Hawk Host, HostGator, SiteGround, and iWebFusion. I would say either SiteGround or iWebFusion are my favorite, I've had the best support and uptime with them

I prefer to self-host (clarification: a Cloud service provider over something like GoDaddy which would immediately take a site down without question) to protect my sites against people who want to report my site maliciously or try to take it down by contacting the host - they have to go through my attorney before anything can move. 😇

I also pay for mail providers instead of hosting my own so it goes into the inbox and not the spam folder (still doable with self-hosted email, but takes a bit longer to warm up, longer than I prefer).

Mail providers tend to side with the person who antes up the big bucks for a subscription. Still, they do (and have) taken away my email ability for a brief period (about 24 hours) as they reviewed the substantiated evidence that shows it's been inaccurately marked as spam. I wonder who could've been behind that attempt to take my mail services offline and where the proud (archived) threads are that demonstrate that and also encourage others to mark it as spam to have gotten it shut off to begin with? 🤔 Suffice it to say, I don't think they'll take their reports seriously anymore (perhaps against any site moving forward) with the evidence submitted that got me back up and running.

I've used HawkHost since pretty early on in my journey as a website administrator. Had a few hosts before them, but moved to HawkHost in around 2012 when my site needed a bit of an expansion and never really looked back. The support is great, the prices are more than reasonable for the services I need, and I've never had any major downtime lasting more than a few minutes that wasn't pre-planned and heavily notified in advance. Overall, can't complain at all!

Using Hostinger currently and I'm not experiencing any issues. Their custom control panel was something to get use too but, after a breif adjustment period I can move around it no problem.

I would recommend Proboards, Forumotion or Jcink if you're using a free one.

Wordpress is a good one, regardless if you're doing a paid or free option for a blog.

Jcink for me. I used Forumotion and even ProBoards on the past but they don't really agree with me...

I don't think I'm going to change my hosting company anytime soon. I've had great experiences with Namecheap. They offer reliable uptime, fast loading speed and the customer support is excellent. What more can I wish for?

namecheap is good when you’re using beginner hosting, but I wouldn’t rely on them if I had a site with high traffic. They’re cheap for a reason.

Yeah I've tried their Stella hosting a few years back and even the forum I had hosted on there that didn't have too much traffic didn't really load that fast. They're my go to for domains though!

I've enjoyed Spaceship, a subsidiary of NameCheap. I doubt I'll ever need to upscale.
