Has anyone taken a coding course at college or university after school? What are or were you hoping to achieve by taking the qualification? Was there a job offer in the pipeline if you passed?

Some would say it would be a waste of time and money unless you financially benefit from it later on in life. A lot of people take niche qualifications but don’t pursue the career.

It is not fair to quickly dismiss a college course as a waste of time and money. Some take it to position themselves for better opportunities.

I think this is basically a question of who is naturally talented in the area of programming and who is not. For those that are, college level classes in respect to programming are almost always a waste of time and can, depending on the professor, actually teach you more bad habits than good. Some of the best dev's I have ever worked with were completely self taught. I fall into the self taught category. For those that do not pick it up as easily then class work in a structured environment can be a huge help. The part that most of those folks struggle with is the parts of learning programming that are abstract concepts such as design patterns, theory etc.
