November 24, 2024Nov 24 Are you a plugin developer for a particular forum or do freelancing? I don't do freelancing any more, it's not worth the hassle. But I'm slowly trying to set up an XF forum so I can launch it and there isn't really a plugin to do quite what I want so I'm building it myself. (Wouldn't be the first time I've built plugins for platforms to build sites; every WordPress I build gets a custom theme often with custom plugin-like dev, and previous SMF sites I did much the same for) Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

I used to freelance but I found that a) I spent a disproportionate amount of time doing admin/sales/chasing clients which is all stuff I don't enjoy and aren't particularly good at and b) that I ended up working far too many hours, frequently into 80+ hour weeks without even realising it. Eh, I was younger then, it was a decade ago that I did that. I'm happier with a more reasonable work-life balance. Holder of controversial opinions, all of which my own.

Those both sound like good reasons freelancing can bog you down. I know when I tried freelancing I either didn't have enough knowledge to do what the user wanted done or there was little to no interest in my services to begin with.

December 2, 2024Dec 2 Administrators I got pulled over by the police today. On my driveway. My front window is tinted in mirror blue. Not allowed to have that, I knew when I did it, so it was a matter of time until they pulled me over. On top of that, my speed was a bit too much, but they didn’t include that on the paper. Just a warning for the tint, and I need to take it off and show it within 10 days. Overall they were pretty cool guys.

December 8, 2024Dec 8 Just got back from hiking. A state park had a Gnome Roam challenge. Yes, really. LOL. We completed all 7. Myself and my wife. Did about 5 miles total on 6 trails. One Gnome was at a Trailhead because the trail was closed for hunting. It's currently shotgun season here. Got a cool patch for doing it. All free and fun!
