January 8Jan 8 Yikes that reminds me of the ice storm we got in 2007. We were without power for a few days and I remember being bundled up underneath my blanket, my parents did the same thing. We have power thankfully. When we were staying in German Town, the lights were flickering in our hotel room because they were getting bad thunderstorms from the snow and ice storm we got in Missouri and Illinois. It was in the 60s there on Sunday. Did your power ever come back on? Yeah, it finally did after like 12-15 hours. 2008 and 2009 were bad years for Southern Illinois as well. We got thunderstorms during the ice storm the other night, it would have heavier freezing rain showers, too. Hearing thunder with ice falling is pretty sketchy LOL Glad there wasn't an ice tornado :P Forum Owner and Blogging Help Another Admin Forum

January 8Jan 8 We're predicted to get about 4-5 inches of snow tomorrow where I live in Texas. That's considered a lot for Texas considering we don't always get snow year-round. I remember when I worked at Walmart we had rolling blackouts where the lights would go off and come back on. We mostly had to work in the dark. We had to use flashlights and headlights to see what we were doing. the hosting provider we pay an absolute bomb to (£xx,xxx) essentially collapsed and went under. Why did they go under?

I was going to say, you folk down south usually don't get much snow. My wife's aunt lives in Dallas, makes me wonder if her cousin who's in high school will be out of school because of the storm. We had to use flashlights and headlights to see what we were doing. Thankfully when I worked at Walmart, I never had this happen. About the closest thing that happened was a few lights in the dairy cooler not working properly, so half of the cooler was dark. It was a large cooler at least, but my co worker freaked me out since the part that wasn't lit up was where our claims were stored and she had to dump some yogurt she found out of the cooler and she walked up from that part of the cooler as I was stocking milk lol. Love roleplaying games? So do we on RPG Haven!

My wife's aunt lives in Dallas, makes me wonder if her cousin who's in high school will be out of school because of the storm. There's a high chance they will be. A lot of schools close their doors when the roads ice over. Thankfully when I worked at Walmart, I never had this happen. It was freaky working in the dark. The blackouts started happening while customers were still in the store and they had to get them all out of there to prevent theft and whatnot. For about two or three days the employees continued working mostly in the dark.
January 9Jan 9 Content Team Why did they go under? Absolutely no idea, wouldn't have thought it was a profit issue with the amount they were charging! We're now essentially self-hosting at about 20% of the cost we were paying them to do it for us - obviously it does involve a bit more work on our (my) end really, but at least it means I'm valuable to them now and they can't get rid of me. :ROFLMAO: Morning Administrata! January 9Jan 9 Content Team Good afternoon everyone! I got to leave work early today since we ran out of work to do. The mail didn't run today in honor of Jimmy Carter, and my work relies on the post office. So worked whatever trays of mail we had, and since we had compliance courses to take some people worked on them. I finished my courses yesterday because we ran out of work for a brief moment, so I got to leave early. Love roleplaying games? So do we on RPG Haven!

What type of services does your job provide exactly? There's not much snow/ice today, but mainly slush. It's supposed to get more snowy later on.

January 10Jan 10 Content Team How is everyone, plans for the weekend guys? I've had a super busy week, starting off at work and then the last two days getting the house in order a bit, looking forward to going to watch Liverpool play Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup tomorrow (we're driving up overnight, about a six hour journey!)... I'm not looking forward so much to the journey back as it's not likely I'll get home before 9pm, and considering we're leaving at 3am... it's going to be a long one! Looking to grow your community and encourage engagement? Our justice system is at breaking point right now, so we're particularly busy in recent times. Dealing with criminals or victims doesn't sound like a job I'd want to do. Thankfully, I've never been summoned to do court business. I'd hate to be the judge of other people's crimes.
January 12Jan 12 Content Team Thats Reminds me of my long drive from OKC to New york took me like 20 hours. You will be toast. i hope you enjoy your time though Oh man, it was a long drive for sure! It was well worth it though - it was a great game, we won 4-0 (expected really!) and I met some great people up at the stadium and in the pubs afterwards. :) Dealing with criminals or victims doesn't sound like a job I'd want to do. Thankfully, I've never been summoned to do court business. I'd hate to be the judge of other people's crimes. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. That being said, I think it's important for people to realise that a "criminal" is just another person, like you or me. We could be, or could become, "criminals" very easily. Some "criminal" offences don't even require "intent", they are what's called "strict liability" offences (at least in the UK), so theoretically, although it doesn't happen often, you could commit a crime without even knowing it. Even when it comes to actual "criminals", lots of people are just regular guys/girls who make a stupid heat of the moment mistake. Yes, there are career criminals and people who have a record longer than your arm, but they are most definitely not the majority. For example, over 12 million people in the UK have a criminal record, yet 11 million (and a few more) of these people will never have been to prison... the crimes are generally minor. When it comes to victims, that part is definitely difficult, especially if they have no prior experience of the criminal justice system. The rules and procedures of courts and the criminal justice system in general are not exactly user-friendly or easy to understand, and sometimes people can become very distressed or upset just out of pure confusion or anxiety about the process. Those kinds of cases can be challenging and sometimes even rather mentally tough to deal with. Looking to grow your community and encourage engagement? January 12Jan 12 Content Team Good afternoon everyone! I only get today off of work, until next weekend. My work will be shut down on Saturday and Monday, so we get a three day weekend. It's rough having one day off of work though, I barely get time to do anything. :\ I have a feeling this is going to be a long week too, since everyone is going to be in the office tomorrow once we run out of work to do they'll probably end up sending us home early like they did to me twice this past week. (I left early yesterday and on Thursday.) Love roleplaying games? So do we on RPG Haven!

January 15Jan 15 Content Team I've just filled out my timesheets for the last fortnight, it turns out I've officially worked 136 hours in the last two weeks... that's literally 40% of my life in the last fortnight. No wonder I've felt so damn drained! The paycheck will certainly be nice in a few days, but I'm definitely glad to have 4 days completely off work now! Party time! :ROFLMAO: Looking to grow your community and encourage engagement?
