General What goes on behind-the-scenes on your forum?

Running a forum isn’t just about what members see- it’s also about everything happening behind the scenes!

• What kind of private sections do you have? (Staff areas, archives, testing grounds, etc.)
• How do you handle daily or weekly admin tasks? (Moderation, backups, security, etc.)
• Do you have any routines or strategies to keep your forum running smoothly?

Share your behind-the-scenes insights! What’s your workflow like as an administrator?

I have a private staff section along with a trash can forum where the bad threads live, so I can keep track of spammers and malicious users.

I also take daily backups even though my host takes 3 backups everyday, however, I also upload them to a private drive. That way I always have a backup stored somewhere else.

Another thing that I do is when I see spammers post their links around, I’ll add them to my spam protection filter. They also get discouraged from the forum.

I have a staff section on pretty much all my forums except RPG Haven. On RPG Haven I have a hidden lounge for members who make over 500 posts, which I suspect will probably take a bit for someone to eventually unlock that section. I also have a few other hidden sub forums that get unlocked after making 10 posts, they're the off topic sections and a few RPG related ones too. I also have a hidden trash can on most of my forums too. I tend to take weekly backups of my sites and see if there's anyone needing approval and remove spam bots.

I frequently make business decisions behind the scenes of my forum. I also discuss certain members, and if any actions should be taken towards their account with my other admin if situations arise where I don't know how to handle it, or need a second opinion.

Not much, since I'm flying solo. The only hidden forum from the member base is the Trash Can. I update snippets of coding on my board occasionally, and sometimes, I work on skin conversions to be released. A lot of days, I don't even access the Admin CP.
