The problem with this is that a sidebar breaks to the lower portion of the page on mobile view, so it's easily dismissible. This following message is now displayed in the sidebar on the conversation list and conversation page:
![]()
I would suggest that notices be used instead as they're prominent and on the top of the page (cannot be dismissed if set properly).
In this case, the page template
conversation_list
should have a notice like "You will not be able to send direct messages until you reach a minimum of 5 posts on the forum". When they reach 5, the notice will go away, if configured properly. It's also displayed when sending a message:
![]()
This is very small and can easily be missed/ignored over a notice on
conversation_add
along the lines of "You are restricted from sending direct messages until you have a minimum of 5 posts on the forum." And, it too, will disappear when the magic number 5 is hit, if configured properly.Just a UX enhancement for those under 5 posts and my 2 cents on how it should be implemented so it's not dismissed (as the sidebar is "invisible" on mobile view) or ignored (since the text is so small under the recipients).
Whatever works I guess.
