New User Profile Picture (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,
When a new user signs up and sees that everyone has the same profile picture, it can give the impression that the forum is using fake accounts.

I came across another forum where users were required to upload a profile picture to complete their registration. This helped make the community feel more personal and authentic.

Would it be a good idea to implement something similar here?

We use Gravatar, a widely used service that automatically applies a user's Gravatar account avatar. For those without an uploaded avatar, we provide a default image featuring our logo. I think this is an improvement over the default letter-based avatar.


That said, I believe forcing anything on users can backfire. Personally, I prefer not to require anyone to use an avatar.

I dont quite agree that site-themed default avatars give the impression of fake accounts. I have never really felt like that on any other forum that does the same.

maybe get some avatar options to select and each users is randomly assigned an avatar ( not same for all )

I am not looking for my forum. It was a suggestion from my side.

But don't you think that new users who sees same pic for all, will get a bad exp? I mean when i first saw few posts, I really got confused as few of them were using same pic(the default one)

I definitely understand what you're saying. While I think it's an improvement, a few default avatars could give that impression. The add on doesn't allow a random avatar that is automatically set though. So that would mean we'd need to look into custom development and that's not really something that is priority at the moment. But for what it's worth, I'll definitely look into it.

Only about 5 months here, but been around forums a few years.
I was just expressing my opinion from my experiences.
