MyBB or PhpBB

Both free software and both I really enjoy using when it comes to using a free software.

Do you have a preference between the two?

I was always a MyBB fan, I still like it, but you have to give the nod to phpBB as it's still actively supported, whereas MyBB...they're a little slow to work on things.

Both are awesome software, but both dead now, in my opinion.

phpBB is still actively developed whereas MyBB isn't.

But both are great softwares if you're looking for a free solution. I've used MyBB more than phpBB but I think I'd prefer it the other way now.

The one major thing that annoys me with MyBB is that by default it isn't mobile responsive whereas phpBB is. Yes, you can get a theme for MyBB that is mobile responsive but out of the box a fresh install isn't.

Yep, I know. They were great to use 10 years ago, but not so much today. I did mess around with it a few days ago, installing a theme and stuff. Looked great.

Both phpBB and MyBB are focusing on security updates these days. MyBB 3.0 has been in talks for at least 5 years now. Almost the same for phpBB 4.0. The last time I checked, the 4.0 default theme on GitHub was very stagnent.

I don't think we'll see a new version of MyBB and phpBB anytime soon.

Considering their time in development, they're most likely already outdated anyway.

Yeah, if they're going through with a new version they would strongly have to consider scrapping their current plans and starting over.

I would have to say phpBB, it's been a few years since I played with it; however, I may install it again to see if it's improved.
