Cooking?

Yes! I love cooking. I like experimenting with different culture's cuisine. It keeps my diet spicy. (Pun totally intended!) A couple days ago I stumbled onto a recipe for Cilantro Lime Rice. This is one of my favorite side dishes I used to order from Qdoba. By learning this recipe, I learned about the secret of toasting the rice before cooking it as normal. Apparently, this is something that is common within Latino cooking, and I was 49 years old to discover it!

I attempted making it, and it's is stellar! I also used these ingredients on some hot pot potatoes (cilantro and lime) since I have like five pounds of limes and a huge bag of cilantro to use up quickly. It worked well. The lime juice also killed some of the intense heat from the Hot Italian Sausage I had on hand.

(Pro tip: You can immediately, and I mean instantly, neutralize the Godzilla breath from eating hot peppers by drinking orange juice! It cools the flames on contact.)

I like to use orange juice whenever I'm making curry or anything else that's typically overly spicy. I enjoy the flavors of the foods, not really the heat.

Learning how to cook has saved me money. My fiancee used to live on eating take out. When I took over the cooking chore and started buying the groceries, I streamlined our expenditures by buying staples in bulk, and using Meal Planning so that we don't get stuck in a rut of eating the same thing every week. In fact, I recently wrote a lengthy post on Reddit about this very topic.

What new recipes have you attempted?

I do cook sometimes but to be honest.. I'm not a huge fan of cooking much. I prefer simple meals that don't take too long

I hate cooking, so I usually eat out when I have the money or cook microwavable dinners.

I recently made homemade hummus, and OMG! is it good! I used dried chickpeas too, some garlic, lemon juice, sun dried tomatoes, onion, and olive oil. Got to use the little food processor and turned out I made a BUNCH! It's so good on bread. Next I'm planning on making some rye bread from scratch. I even got the caraway seeds...oh, and I can make pumpernickel too!

What are some of the simple meals that you like to make? I’m the same way. I’d rather make some chicken, sausages, or steak with rice & call it a day.

Egg sandwiches or omelettes are also my favorite quick meals.

I don't know how to cook, it's something I do want to eventually learn at some point but now I just like the convenience of eating pre made meals.

My advice when you do finally start to learn how to cook. Buy an InstantPot. Rice was the first thing I learned how to make in it. One cup of rice to two cups of water. Push the Rice button. Came out perfect. I know it doesn't sound like much, but once you figure out the InstantPot, you'll be learning slow cooking, sauteing, and pressure cooking.
