What are you listening to?
I'm a huge Rod Wave fan, and this song in particular is absolutely incredible to me! "I threw the party of the century, people came over, no-one left sober, and it was all for you, it was all for youuuu..." 🎶

Should Members Be Allowed to Vote on Rule Changes?
I'm a bit torn on this one - while I think member engagement is great in general, for me personally, I wouldn't let members get involved with setting/voting on potential rule changes. I think the main reason for that is that all of my forums have always had very few rules. Essentially, don't post illegal content, don't unnecessarily flame other members, and try to post things in the right place. My rules, on all my forums, were always pretty much that simple. I didn't really feel the need for "formal" rules most of the time - ultimately, while forums are a community, there is also a owner of the forum, who is essentially the owner of a private website and can choose who can access it and who can't - my own rule was always that I'd never prevent anyone from access unless they did something wrong first. Things we deemed to be "wrong" are very obvious things (as previously mentioned) - if you sign up to a forum and post illegal stuff or consistently flame other people, you're probably not the kind of person that's going to read some rules anyway.

What a fantastic idea for a community, and a great approach to offering peer-to-peer support for people experiencing mental health related issues. I applaud the sentiment and wish you all the best with this project. :)- Looking to Purchase a XenForo License (Need Guidance)
We're glad you managed to get your license, whichever way it happened! Thanks for joining Administrata and hope to see you around our community when you begin your forum journey. :)- Community Chat Thread
Still a huge fan of your signature! :D Evening Administrata! Chilling in front of the telly after a stressful day at work... work from home tomorrow and then a couple days off for me, can't wait for some real chill time. :)- Are Moderation Logs Necessary for Transparency?
I used to be a member of a large forum using vBulletin which had the "spy" feature which disclosed moderation actions taken... I personally found it to be quite unprofessional and did on some occasions cause drama unnecessarily. On my own forums, I've never had moderation logs public, or allowed discussion of moderation actions taken in public forums. (aside from mods themselves occasionally issuing general public warnings) I had moderator logs that were available for admin review, like most forums of course, but I never really reviewed them as I always trusted my mods to make the right decisions and never had any real issues with any action that they had taken.- Community Chat Thread
Been a busy couple days at work for me, it's my last day in the office today, then got work from home duties till the weekend, so might finally have some time to catch up on stuff! See you later Administratans!- How do you measure the success of community events?
I used to run regular events on my football forum, most of which would either coincide with huge events on the football calendar (world cup, last day of the season, finals, etc), or as my forum developed and got bigger, I'd focus more on running some contests and events during the "close season" period when the forum would otherwise be naturally quieter. To be honest, I never formally studied the metrics of these events, or set specific goals - the events were always done simply with the intention of having some fun, keeping activity up, and giving members a small added incentive to continue participating in our forum vs our competitor forums. Worked as intended for me!- Community Chat Thread
Woken up with a snotty, leaky nose, a sore throat, and heavy breathing that would make Michael Jackson seem "normal". Not exactly looking forward to my 7 hour shift this morning, especially in the cold... but at least it's not a full day. See you soon Administratans, if I make it!- Community Chat Thread
Have an early morning shift (but luckily only for a few hours!) so likely to turn my head in early for a few extra zzzs tonight. Been really struggling to get some consistent sleep lately. :(- Valentine's Gift x3 (Again)

We’re here to help!- Reddit plans to lock some content behind a paywall this year, CEO says
Yay, even more reason (alongside their refusal to let me comment on anything/automatic deletion of anything I do comment) for me to not bother with Reddit!- FlatPress: A Database-less Alternative to WordPress
This is an interesting alternative, especially for small websites without a need for a lot of functionality I guess. I suppose I could see it being a viable option for small business websites that don't require sign up/ordering functionality (like portfolio websites) or something, as well as personal blogs which is the use case given. I'm wondering though, without a database, what's the options, if any, for user interaction using this platform? I'm assuming there's no comment/like/update/alert service or something that can run without the use of a database, or it'd be somewhat complex to code at least?- What was the last tv show that you watched?
I thought I'd posted here before but apparently not, but I'm currently on a Game of Thrones marathon! Never watched it before, currently on season 5 before I'm gonna go ahead and watch House of the Dragon... loving it so far!- Do you research before you start writing?
Research is important sure - but myself, a lot of the time I simply won't write on a topic that I know absolutely nothing about. Absolutely, if I have some knowledge on the topic but want to check my facts or figures before posting about something, that's a valid form of research - but I don't think I'd go out of my way to research a particular topic just in order to write about it, whether that be on a forum or some other medium... unless it was a topic that interested me already, of course.- Administrata Lottery #2 - Ready to win big?
Had to go back through the thread to check what's been guessed... :ROFLMAO: I'll take #2 and #56 for my guesses for today please. :D- What are you listening to?
Probably not generally my kind of music normally, but I have to say, Teddy Swims has an absolutely incredible voice! 😮 Tell me I'm wrong?!- Inside the mind of an online community lurker
This is a great article and contains some great advice! I myself am a lurker of many forums - there are some forums where I find the topic of conversation quite interesting, but just don't feel like I have much of value to add to the discussions, so choose not to post just for the sake of posting - although I will say that certainly, as a lurker, it does help and encourage me to engage if a mod/admin of a site I'm lurking on reaches out (perhaps via PM) to converse or ask if there's anything I need help with. It just shows that the community is proactive and interested in fresh blood. :)- 120 Posts & 30 Threads Plz!!
