Admin Junkies
I'll commit to 20 threads for now, and I'll review the position and see whether I think I'm able to maintain high quality threads once those are completed if nobody else has taken on the final 10. :) ETA for me completing my 20 is probably 3-4 days, just fyi.

What's the most toxic social media platforms you've used?
I don't use any social media really anymore except for work-related purposes... they've all, in some degree, given in to toxicity, hate and division. Facebook was the first platform I stopped using and that was in around 2013. From then on, I migrated to Twitter, and found that it was generally quite well moderated and generally a safe platform. I started using Twitter again a lot during lockdown in 2020 after a long break, and found that it had already at that point began the creep towards becoming a lot more tolerant of hatred and being pro-"free speech". Since the Musk takeover, I think I've probably visited Twitter for personal purposes about five times... it doesn't interest me anymore. It wouldn't surprise me if in 10-20 years documentaries are made about how social media grew into a breeding ground for terrorism, violence and child abuse.

What's your moderation style?
So, admins and moderators of Administrata, I'd like to know - what's your moderation style? Are you a relaxed, laid-back kind of moderator who would rather send a friendly PM warning a new member of a minor rule violation, or are you the kind of moderator who takes the stance that a new member should take the time to read the rules and if they don't, deserve a warning? Do you find that you adjust your moderation style based on what site you're moderating at the time? Have you ever been asked by an admin to take on a moderation role that was too harsh or not harsh enough for you, and how did you react and manage that situation? Did you have the confidence to express your thoughts to the admin? Interested to hear your experiences!

What's the first social media site you used?
I first signed up to Facebook in around 2008 or 2009 I think. I think I had briefly visited MySpace before Facebook, but I didn't sign up until much later so that doesn't really count! A couple of years after Facebook I discovered Twitter and then that became my main social media profile as I sort of fell out of using Facebook and found more of my friends and more interactions over on Twitter.

Social Media Presence
Do you like to have a social media presence for your websites? When you create a new project, whether it be a forum, blog, game or just general website, do you tend to create social media accounts for the website alongside it? I used to be quite hot on creating Facebook pages and Twitter profiles for my website projects, but I generally found at the time that absolutely everybody and their dog was doing the same thing and it actually did quite little in terms of bringing further engagement or new users to the website/forum, unless I spent some money experimenting with the social media networks' advertising features. Has anybody had any success using social media to help promote or just have more of a presence online for their sites, and if so, do you have any tips to share with the Administrata community? :)

Community Chat Thread
I work as an advisor for a charity, so it involves a lot of time sitting at a desk either answering emails, taking/making phone calls or working on content/information pages for our website through WordPress. Boring at times, but a job I enjoy nonetheless, and something I plan to make a career out of as I'm enjoying it thoroughly having only been working here for just over a year. :)

Community Chat Thread
I managed to get the end of the week work from home duties for the last few days, now I have a super busy weekend coming up followed by a full Monday & Tuesday in the office where I can't be interrupted... swings and roundabouts, is that something they say? Seems I'll definitely be earning my "relaxing few days"...

What tasks do you reserve for yourself?
I'm interested to know if there's any particular tasks you like to reserve for yourself as an administrator, or anything you instruct/prefer your moderators to not do? Whether it be certain moderation options, only allowing your mods to warn members and not ban them, or something else entirely, I want to hear about what, as an admin, you like to reserve control over!

Call of Duty
Anyone played any of the recent Call of Duty games? I used to be a big fan of the series on the Xbox 360 when I was a teenager 10-15 years now (and for a short while on the Xbox One), I had a brief rekindling of my interest in the games during lockdown in 2020 and played a few games, but not since. Since I last played in late 2020 or early 2021 I think there's been 3 or 4 new Call of Duty releases, so, who's played them, and what did you think? Personally, my favourite CoD of all time was the first Black Ops. I don't think it can be beaten for me in terms of the enjoyment I got from a game for so long.

What happened to some of the oldest free forum hosting sites
The first ever forum I created was hosted on a free forum hosting site called myfanforum.org, when I was about 11 years old if I remember rightly. :ROFLMAO: Thinking about this sent me on a mini trip down memory lane... I just navigated to the domain where there used to be a form to fill out to setup your forum, alongside a support forum for owners to get help with their sites. Unfortunately it seems the domain is now parked with some spam ads or something on it. Shame. :(

What DOES NOT belong on a pizza?
I can't stand those "pineapple of pizza" type people (sorry Americans!). That just doesn't float my boat in the slightest! I also don't eat any kind of seafood, so any pizza with any of that rubbish on is an instant no-no for me. Other than that, I'm cool with pretty much anything on a pizza. I particularly enjoy a meat feast, and I love me some jalapenos too on occasion!

Necroposting
I personally have absolutely no issues with anybody posting in any thread if I've left it open. If, as an admin/mod, you don't want certain threads to be posted in, then you should remove members' ability to post in those threads. In general, as long as the post adds something of value and is relevant to the thread, I wouldn't care if it was made 10 years after the last post in the thread. That being said, a gentle reminder to somebody if they're posting in a thread that's outdated or has a new thread dedicated to the same topic is fine too, but you should also probably consider locking those kinds of threads to avoid posts there in the first place. :)

Your goal for 2025?
That's awesome! I'm in my late 20s and have been unable to drive so far due to being mistakenly diagnosed with epilepsy in 2020 after I experienced a few blackouts. I am on the mend now and generally doing better, although I have to wait a full year without a blackout before I can apply for a driving license. I'm really looking forward to the extra freedom that'll give me, even fast approaching my 30s!

Do Ads Ruin the Integrity of Online Communities?
Ads absolutely don't ruin a community in my opinion, if the website administrator is thoughtful and considerate with his placement of advertising spots. If a website administrator goes for what are suggested to be the "best performing" ad spots, generally they are more intrusive and annoying naturally, as they capture more of our attention - that's why they're "best performing"! However, having a banner ad in the footer and maybe a sidebar ad doesn't necessarily put me off. At the end of the day, I understand that running a website involves costs, even small ones, and I'm completely fine with administrators seeking to recoup those costs and even make a small profit for the time they put into their websites, as long as their advertising doesn't majorly inconvenience or annoy me!

How do you keep your community engaged during slow periods?
When I used to run my large football forum, I used to struggle to keep people engaged during the off-season (the end of the football season). I had to resort to introducing new highlighted forums for the discussion of pre-season football and transfer news and gossip, as well as running some community events, competitions and encouraging people to visit more of the off-topic areas of the forum. For the first year or two of our existence, summer's were quite slow, which is probably the opposite to the general trend for most other forums, but by year 3 our summers weren't far off our activity levels of the rest of the year which ultimately I was happy with.

What Hasn't Been An Forum Subject/project yet?
Actually, thinking on it, I think the biggest forum I used to run had one very unique aspect - I'm pretty sure we were the first forum to integrate a live Sportsbook with full betting functionality on live sport events using forum currency. Not only could you bet on pre-game results, you could bet live in-play on goal, corner, card & handicap markets, thanks to a live data feed from Betfair API. This was in 2012, when sports betting online was popular, but nowhere near as popular as today. It was also likely unique due to the high costs involved - we paid around $500 a month for our access to the live data feed from Betfair API, and this was super cheap for us as we were able to take advantage of some discounts and had a contact within Betfair that was able to give us a substantial additional discount on top; I highly doubt if many other people were able to get the access we had for anything less than $1,500/month back then.

Most Difficult ACP?
At some point in time I think I've used the admin panel of every major free and paid forum software, with the exception funnily enough of XenForo. I personally found SMF very hard and confusing to use as an administrator, which is probably the reason why I gave up with it so quickly (this was many years ago however). I also found vBulletin to be somewhat confusing, and has a lot of unnecessary, useless (in my opinion) and annoying things in the ACP that just aren't necessary and would be ideal to make a toggle on/off setting to save space for admins who don't use them. Of the free software, for me, MyBB was undoubtedly the cleanest feeling ACP with the easiest way to manage things, change settings & install plugins/themes and the like. phpBB also had a great looking ACP and I used phpBB3 to run my biggest forum for several years, despite the plugins/modifications system being rather complicated. The ACP for phpBB was more focused, in my view, on moderation/user/specific section management, all modifications/plugin/theme installations were done through cPanel with just a small tab for management in the ACP which made things super sleek and not at all cluttered.

What Hasn't Been An Forum Subject/project yet?
I've been wracking my brains this morning trying to think of a forum subject I haven't seen covered before. I'm still yet to think of one, a good 10 minutes on from first reading this post. :p As Arantor said, I also come from an era where forums were the go-to tool if you wanted to create your own website, as they were the most simple software to use once installed - so I'm sure any idea that someone comes up with would have been done in some way, shape or form before, even if we're not necessarily aware of it. :)

Hi from fdk!
Hi all, fdk here! Thought I'd take a minute to come over, say hi and introduce myself! I'm fdk, in my late 20s and from the UK. Love gaming, love sports, love watching sport specifically... big football fan here! I've been away from forums for a while but have returned lately and been finding a few new places to hangout! Loving the snow falling on the screen here while I'm typing this, while I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas I can certainly appreciate the nice touch! :) Looking forward to discussing things with you all as time goes on!
