1. Hey Cedric frm Daedalus Cpvr & anyone else I've forgotten to tag who's posted here having tried the game - thank you! This has been a bit dead for the past week or so, mainly due to me having problems fixing up my gym code and so the game not actually really being able to be played properly. I've finally managed to get some support in fixing up the code and the gym cooldowns are now working correctly - to celebrate this, as I'm sure frm will really appreciate ( :ROFLMAO: ) I'm resetting everyone's battle stats to the default 10 now... feel free to play around and see what you can do now. I am going to be actively working on some development for the game over the Christmas break, so whilst it still looks ugly as hell and is in extremely basic state, you will hopefully at least start to see things have a little more consistency, and new features/pages being slowly released between now and early January. The hope is to get it in a good enough state to actually play for more than 5 minutes a time, at which point I'll work on some styling/theme for the game, then make plans for an open BETA for a while. I think I mentioned previously that I have around 200 players waiting for this game, if I'm honest I'm just loath to involve them in development at this time as the game is currently really bad. I want it to be in a playable beta state before inviting them in, with the plan that the game will be monetized long-term - the players I have waiting for this game are all cash cows ready to spend $$$. :D I appreciate all of your help in testing/development/ideas (please share any ideas if you have them!) and I will absolutely make provision for anyone who's been helping to have a healthy premium package added to their game account when the game eventually launches (however far into the future that may be)! PS: Winning battles and searching for gold have been giving experience to players accounts for the past few days, although you might not be able to see this. Soon a levelling system will be implemented so you'll be able to level up and gain access to further game areas.

5. The biggest (any only that I've ever had real success with) forum that I owned was truly "kicked off" by an idea to build a working sportsbook betting function into the forum currency system to allow for betting on football matches. As we were a football forum, this seemed like a cool idea at the time, and I thought it'd spark discussions and extra activity in order to earn the currency to accumulate, as well as the discussing of bets meaning the more discussion of football in general. I couldn't see any downsides. In fact, there were no downsides. The forum quickly grew to become a small-time competitor to some of the biggest football forums on the internet at the time, and generated a decently sized revenue for a website of it's size. Finding a niche and being a groundbreaker or having an awesomely fun interactive feature that you're the first to do in a certain way can go a massive way to causing a population explosion in your community.
6. This is an old song... well, I say old. My version of old is three years. :ROFLMAO: Just having a listen before bed, got to be up in about five hours! Goodnight Administrata :)
7. I've taken a spot on this request and will get around to slowly completing my part over the next few days into Christmas. :)

This is one thing that I'm sort of unsure of myself if I'm honest. The one forum I did have that grew to be really big grew from me literally starting it on my own with about 10 threads to asking my brother to join and help post. I then got two friends I knew online to join too, and for a week or two it was just us four. We were then found by a handful of people and over the course of a year or so somehow grew to become a community of thousands upon thousands. Honestly - I still don't quite know how it happened. Sure, I did some basic advertising, and I used Google Ads a bit when we started to get a small income - but how it got to even that point I still don't quite know. Just a mystery really. Or luck. Who knows. :)
9. I think it's important to vary the duties/roles you ask your staff members to fulfill, especially if they're a volunteer. Some staff are more than happy to remain in a single position, while some may want to do something else or have some other duties. My forum used to have a few additional "tasks" that were assigned to staff, they were not "necessities" but rather staff could volunteer to take the tasks on on a rota basis, things like "archive time" where a member of staff would be asked to spend two hours moving threads around forums based on which leagues/countries the games were in etc (yes we had a complicated system lol). Whenever a staff member volunteered to take part in any of these extra tasks, I only ever asked them to do them for an hour or two a week as they were rather menial and I appreciated their time, and I also checked in regularly to see if they were happy to continue to offer their time once a week, letting them know it was absolutely fine if not. It's also important to support and encourage staff to take a break. I once actually banned a Moderator for 2 days from my forum after he told me he was going away for a weekend with his girlfriend, as I knew he'd be tempted to check in otherwise. Personal time is important too to not cause burnout. :)
10. I used to be a member of one particular forum that was rather large and was notorious for locking absolutely hundreds of new threads made every week because they were so-called "duplicate" topics... never mind the fact that sometimes they had 10-20 posts of discussion in them before a moderator got around to locking them. Always used to really confuse me, so I'm glad to hear not all admins/mods think that way!

I've never really liked my middle name, but seeing as my mother gave it to me in memory of her grandfather (who I never met), I've never really been able to find a way to tell her, so I just don't really use it. Luckily nobody else really does either, even most of my official things don't use it.

Got a cheeky little bet myself on Lamar Jackson to throw 250+ passing yards and 2+ TD passes. Not bad odds at a shade under 4/1, so worth a little gamble. Here's hoping! :D
13. This is a great concept and one I would definitely advocate. When my biggest community got to the stage where we had premium memberships, I always PM'ed new subscribers within a day or two of their subscription to thank them and ask them if there was anything they'd like (custom user title, change of username, etc). As we didn't generally allow these on the forum, and our overall subscription rate was quite low so these features/additions were quite rare, they were really appreciated and I think really helped our retention rates. In the two years or so we were taking paid subscribers I can't remember more than about 20 out of 500+ that cancelled their three-monthly paid membership. The time it takes to do this, especially as your community grows, should not be underestimated. But if you are intent on monetizing your community, or being able to make money to reinvest in the site and/or it's features or even your future projects, this is definitely something to strongly consider.

I'm going to watch Ravens Steelers when it starts in half hour or so as this Barca game has been boring so far and won't be far off finishing anyhow. I do like me some NFL!
15. I definitely agree with you on the point about AI graphics being super easy to spot. I play an online game that uses a lot of AI generated graphics in it's updates and press releases and it's absolutely so off-putting and ugly as hell in my opinion. Anyone even reasonably experienced with graphics & AI can likely tell the difference very quickly is my suspicion.
16. I've never used Blackhat SEO techniques, but as a young, new admin/teenager, I might have been tempted. As you start to get older you tend to become more aware of ethics and consequences so these sorts of silly ideas tend to leave you behind. At least, that's my own experience!

Evening all, how are we? Just chilling atm watching the Barcelona vs Athletico Madrid match... going to be spending an hour or so catching up on content stuff after then getting ready for an early start tomorrow. :) How's everyone's Saturday evenings?
18. What would you consider it if I added some code to prevent myself being damaged at all? :geek:
19. That's my account, so... more than you. :p That being said, even with battle stats having some (small) effect, there is still randomness involved. So you'll sometimes do more damage to me.

Have we migrated in any new members from this? Regardless, even more reason to spread the word of Administrata and help grow this great resource now everyone. :)
21. Ah crap. I've been desperately trying to fix this whole gym cooldown situation, knew I should've just disabled training for now... :ROFLMAO: Luckily for you, I don't have the database open right now... but next time I open it... :sneaky:

I'm more lazy in the morning, funnily enough. It's 5:20am here right now, I had to get up about 30 minutes ago as have a work-related Christmas thing to sort that'll take up most of my morning and early afternoon now... getting up not long ago was painfully tough to the point where I actually rolled back over and went back to sleep for 10 minutes so am now running slightly late... so bye for the day Administrata! :ROFLMAO: :p

I loved phpBB! My biggest forum initially ran phpBB2, then upgraded (thankfully) to phpBB3 before coming really big! I never had any issues and always found the ACP was nice and easy to use... I also didn't find the permissions confusing like some, I actually liked some of the additional functionality and the ability to set user permissions on an individual basis which wasn't a feature of many forum software packages back then. I did have a lot of custom plugins and code written for my forum, so that did add to my members' experience, but the overall base of the software was always perfect for our needs.
24. My Christmas wish is a temporary spot to advertise my game in the header navigation bar if I ever get it to a stage where it can be released publicly. We're likely talking well into next year, and not sure if Santa's magic can "save" a gift for that long, but if I don't ask I definitely won't get! :geek:
