I personally would never discourage somebody from posting unless they were literally posting absolute crap. As long as their posts are adding to conversation and relevant, it's fine with me if they want to post on every thread on the forum. That being said, I completely take your point and understand about how it can look if somebody checks the "new posts" page or something and just sees one persons' name on every post. It is somewhat off-putting and I myself would never do that when posting on a forum myself - I rarely post more than 4-5 posts in a row on a forum if there's nobody else active and posting at that time for this exact reason. As a forum owner though, especially if running a small, new up and coming forum, I think it's important to be grateful for any member who's willing to contribute such high levels of activity.

Absolutely no idea, wouldn't have thought it was a profit issue with the amount they were charging! We're now essentially self-hosting at about 20% of the cost we were paying them to do it for us - obviously it does involve a bit more work on our (my) end really, but at least it means I'm valuable to them now and they can't get rid of me. :ROFLMAO: Morning Administrata!

Ah, only three days later I get back to you, been run off my feet. :ROFLMAO: I work for a national charity in the UK and in the early hours of Sunday morning it seems our website and all our related services that rely on internet went offline. Been spending a couple of days doing some mad diagnostic issues and eventually discovered that essentially, the hosting provider we pay an absolute bomb to (£xx,xxx) essentially collapsed and went under. So I've spent the past 72 hours or so meticulously rebuilding our website & all of our services from locally stored backups that we (thankfully!) retained. Probably saved my own and everyone else's job in the process too as it's likely our funders would've quickly withdrawn support if we told them the six-figure sum we spent on website & software development a few years back was essentially down the toilet. :LOL:

Got a phone call at 6am this morning (on a Sunday!) for a work-related emergency and had to drop everything and go into the office. Been asked to do extra hours over the next two days too to help with the fallout, so fdk is a grumpy guy tonight! Hope everyone is well and looking forward to catching up with you all soon!

The primary issue is dealing with the fact that many potential new members will come to your site, see it is filled with old/outdated content, and not even bother registering assuming the forum is dead/dying. For this exact reason, if I were ever going to consider reviving an old dead forum I'd make absolutely certain that I'd filled it up with fresh new content beforehand and it wasn't filled with easy-to-use years old threads that could be off-putting to potential members. Alternatively, you could be a bit of a cheat and just manually amend the database to add x amount of time to all post creation dates. Essentially if you were using a year-old database you could run a database query to update all of the post dates one year forward, to make the posts seem recent. This won't help with the issue of getting people to return to the forum directly, but it just might be what you need to bring those people who do check your site out back as members and encourage them to participate.

This is a great take. The advent of AI and it's coming to prominence lately I am certain will result in a lot of old blackhat SEO methods becoming obsolete, and hopefully, "SEO" will finally become what it should be originally - not a method to "boost" your site, but a method of a search engine optimising itself to deliver the most appropriate content based on a user search. The best thing any forum can do to fit these kind of criteria is to simply have accessible, crawlable threads with seo-friendly URLs and ensure any spam content is dealt with quickly to avoid any potential ranking penalties. That's about it, nowadays, and that's a good thing, because it means content should eventually win out.

I think the idea behind an enforceable age restriction on social media sites is a good one, I just fail to see how it will be successfully implemented. Some parents will "give in" to their kids and help them circumvent restrictions and have an account. What then? Are such parents criminalised or something? It doesn't seem viable or proportionate to criminalise the children, nor the parents, and without some form of "penalisation", I can't see how enforcement would work.
