Congratulations again on VPL winning Site of the Month [mention=5]Cpvr[/mention] It is a great forum and I absolutely love the theme! Whilst I'm not a huge fan of Virtual Pet games, I really do appreciate the layout and styling of the site, and as I said, the theme really suits the site. A worthy winner for sure and a great community to be a small part of! :)

All the personal projects I've ever used have used cPanel for server/hosting management, and I like the feel of it (as I've become used to it, I suppose) so it works absolutely brilliantly for me. At work, our website management uses Plesk for server management, but my duties don't often involve using it. I'm familiar enough with it to be able to perform most tasks that are needed, but sometimes I find myself getting stuck on something and needing to have a quick Google to find out how to access a certain area or perform a task. It's not too much more difficult though, I'd say.

Experience is important when it comes to creating forums, that's for sure, but it most definitely isn't the be all and end all. I first began using forums at the age of about 11-12. The first forum I ever joined was a forum that was sort-of linked to a website I used called Swapitshop, which was a site at the time that allowed kids to safely trade items (toys, games, trading cards, etc) between each other. The forum wasn't officially linked to the website, but was run by a slightly older teenager, who was about 14 when he created the forum I think, and was just as popular as the site itself, having thousands of members at it's peak. I'm sure that he made a lot of money from the site, and it was successful enough that for many years while Swapitshop existed he was able to run the forum as a successful business. I myself started my most successful forum at the age of 13 I think, and while it was 18 months or so by the time it had started to get popular, at the age of 15 I was running a forum with hundreds of daily active members getting multiple thousands of posts a week, and making a reasonable enough income to invest significantly in the site and buy myself some extra little treats (and spend on some other online projects!). Age isn't so important - what's important is being good at building communities, relating to others, and being able to encourage others to participate in your community and feel like they've found a "home" of friends.

I personally don't really see any reason to block AI crawlers from indexing sites, unless the crawlers are operating to such a degree that they're affecting site performance, which is unlikely to be the case. I think we'd all like AI to become better, more advanced and more useful over time, so I'd say there's somewhat of a responsibility on us as admins to allow our sites to be indexed to help improve such technologies if it doesn't cause us issues ourselves.

I think I'm coming down with the start of a chest infection, which sucks! Luckily for me, I've got work from home duties tomorrow, Saturday off, and only a few hours shift on Sunday afternoon so got the next few days to take it easy and chill in bed and do some work on Administrata and personal projects. :)

I am very much in this boat for most of the forums I use too, Administrata being one of very few exceptions. I hate email notifications. My emails are for important things... I'll get to forum notifications and PMs when I have the time to. :p

I don't currently run a website, but I used to do quite well being able to promote my forum via Facebook. I managed to get probably a hundred or more members through free advertising via Facebook pages and groups about 10-12 years ago. Nowadays, I think I'd struggle with social media promotion, because it seems so over-saturated with businesses and websites trying to promote themselves. I think I'd struggle also with just identifying which social media networks to focus on promoting on nowadays, because I don't think there's one "clear cut" favourite, like Facebook was back in the day.

I absolutely love this. What's great about it is that Sam doesn't take potshots at Musk, or come across at all condescending to me. He handled that interview perfectly well imo, and expressed genuine concern for the lunacy that has overtaken Musk of late.

I've never allowed multiple accounts on any of my forums, simply put because from all of my experience of being an admin/mod multiple accounts are generally only used to either break rules or circumnavigate some restriction(s) placed on accounts. There's no other real legitimate reason to use a multiple account as a normal member, for most forums. Of course, there are some exceptions. If you're being paid to post, then multiple accounts might be required. Also, some niches of forum (I'm thinking like old roleplay-style forums) actually encourage multiple accounts as they want more "characters" to interact with. I'm sure there's also some other niche exceptions that I can't think of off the top of my head. As for owning multiple accounts myself, I don't really do it. On a couple of forums I deliver content for I have a couple of accounts, but this is relatively rare for me. On my old football forum, I eventually decided to setup an admin and a "regular" account, just so that my regular posts as an admin didn't distract (and the posts I made as an admin were more noticed). This worked well for me at the time.

No surprise to see such nonsense from Musk. Only slightly surprised that he's still upto these antics with his new official Government position, but hey, it's a Trump administration, what does anyone expect I guess? :ROFLMAO: By the way, in b4 Musk tries to sue Sam Altman to force him to pay $9.74billion for Twitter. I'm sure Musk is desperate to get out of that hellhole. 😵‍💫
