Strange, just hit the domain again and the website is up. Well, it's an FYI only I guess.

frm The sequence was,.... Browsed administrata for a bit earlier, Then I was back on my forum, but I got tied up and let it sit for a few seconds on the screen. When I looked up all of a sudden avast popped up. The warning specifically said the domain I referenced. I hadn't visited that domain. After that I returned to administrata specifically to inspect that domain I recognised as one of the top links. I visited the link, and as noted it has an xf closed account page. Just telling it like it happened as weird as it is sounding. It was on my primary system and am on my phone atm. I will check in the morning to see if avast left it in the logs. And no, I haven't replicated it again.

Just fyi,.... The top link Forum Discovery leads to a dead website and flags me an Avast warning.
5. I have found that when I need to know something, or I need some info that is fairly rare or totally obscure, forums always seem to be the place that provide answers I need, whether or not I join. I depend on them again and again. I get so lost on the likes of reddit and regular static retail pages are rarely up to date.

Welcome. Are you an 8800?
8. My personal (added) perspective on ads are. ... Unless you absolutely need the revenue, ads suck for everyone. Nothing like getting thousands of daily impressions, very few clickthru's, and you find out that in 6 to 12 months you may get a payout of a hundred or so. Your members dislike them to the point of ad-blindness as well as your visitors. It trashes out valuable real estate that may have better uses for your visitors and website. I dunno. I have done ads before, overdone maybe a couple times. And I now have disdain for them.
9. I think forums are always stronger (as a whole) than it was in the beginning. But I think i need to keep perspective of actual traffic reasons. MySpace started grabbing the younger people. Then Facebook pops up and steals them, but then it's infiltrated by adults, companies, and spammers. And of course twitter trained us all to post in little short paragraphs. And can't leave out the incessant doom-scrolling that TikTok makes us do. And then the games. Oh god, the games. I feel that organically, forums still have a solid following, and people that post in forums will always be there and grow. I suggest that I am saying, we are not in competition to get back members. Nor to be more popular. When forums were everywhere, many many of them didn't survive the onslaught of tangents that social media provided. So before the big boys stole everyone, there was just forums and bulletin boards. Now there are a ton of options available for traffic to follow. And my goal is to entice a few visitors to stop and look around before they tap away. Maybe one or two signing up now and then would be nice too. m2c

If you study history back to ww1, thru ww2, and the first 53 days of you know who.... ... that's what it's like to be American right now. And most Americans don't understand what is happening in real time. I am American. And I don't feel like this is America anymore.
11. Sams Club gives me multiple snaks every time I go there. They aint losin' any money on me.
12. Some Guitar players are timeless,...
13. Well that depends. But a resource based website could easily be monetized by different levels of data available, with the lowest level being free. Depending on the function of the forum. But a forum with lets say, just hidden forums or web-based chotski's, I think I would rather just ask for donations.
14. I was hammered by PM spammers back when I used VB, but not since using XF
15. Although I want to and enjoy adding content, sometimes I have to break away just to keep myself fresh. And sometimes life gets in my way.

I have a couple goals that stand out. I will achieve all three FCC amateur license levels. I will continue adding content to my new forum and exploring ways to improve.

I have found CHIRP freeware to be an awesome tool for managing your memory settings on handhelds, but best thing is you can turn off duplex on any selected channel memory location preventing Transmission. You still can fat-finger your ability to transmit on a band though. My local testing spot is about 80 miles away so I am hoping to be able to test-out for the General license, but my absolute goal right now is the Technician, mid Feb. The next most soonest is a few hours away end of April. That's why I wish to get the first two levels on the first go around. The Extra license will require much more study time I expect. I downloaded a free app just to self test, and purchased a study guide from amazon that will get me up to speed on the current info.
18. Yes it is, but that first time is a nail-biter.
19. Congrats to the winner !! I liked them all. (I was going to vote but I was under the impression it ended on the 31st? I know it wouldn't have changed the results. :) so no biggie)

You do NOT need a license to buy or listen in on in the US. You do need an FCC license to key the mic and talk in the US. And some of these radios you will need multiple test sessions to be approved for all bands. And if you don't plan on getting a license, get a trigger guard lol. I bet these can be bought in Japan. Different licensing laws than the US I am sure. Right now I only have the CMRS license. Working on my Technician level license now.

Got my GMRS call sign today and the radio's came in today. Gonna do some setup on it and watch a few video's for familiarization.

Well handhelds have a lot of limitations, but are dirt cheap. If you have some technical backgrounds then you are likely to pick up what is needed to know fairly easily what is in the tests.

The GMRS just requires registration, agreements, and payment of $35. I plan on getting the technician, general, and Extra,.. each a harder level test.

Picked up up my GMRS license this morning. I know I cant transmit on the certain frequencies yet, but I do want to stay on the right side of the tracks. I will have my call sign in a couple days. I have been practice testing using "Ham Radio Prep" app for the next level of licensing. I just use the free features.

I am not a prepper by definition, but I could be lol. So since the dollar limit in this so called hobby is pretty much how much money you want to put into it, so I picked up a pair of handsets to play with. Less than 60 bucks but it comes unlocked. And accessories. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CW2QQGXD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I know its cheap Chinese junk, but to me a perfect entry-level price point. I know I can achieve all three licenses, and I guess then I will have to upgrade to a mobile/base station.
