  1. Cloudflare is the best currently for price and privacy, especially when coupled to their DNS services.
  2. Seems like all the goats keep a catalog lol. I do too. Still trying to decide which domain/genre to apply to my next forum. I have some good ones, and back in the day I would have had many of them hosting a forum at once.
  3. It doesn't matter as much as it used to. Most of it is psychological marketing anyway anymore. BUUUUT,... a fair example: Everyone knows about Overstock dot com and what they do. Well, when new extensions came out, the CEO thought it would be really cool for the customers to use a real short name instead. So they paid millions and changed their corporate name to "o.co" . A prized one letter domain name in the .co extension. Short story shorter, they figured out in quick order that people were typing in "o dot com" which they did not own. They changed their name back within months.
  4. As a fairly extreme comparison, the other side of that is unfettered chaos. I feel both sides have their own detriments, but ultimately it is up to the site owner and staff as to how they wish their site to be used and how they wish it appears to the public. I myself hate political discussion anymore. I mean, really hate. I leave that type of discussion for the sites like X as they seem to cater best to loud redundant political rhetoric and that's completely fine for them. I don't do X lol, and likely never will.
  5. Community standards always vary from site to site. I have always maintained the standard prohibited conversations like prn, violence, illegal activity, but I also express that a site I may be running is not a first amendment protected website and community standards are in force at the discretion of staff.

likely yes. I have done many niche forums. Never one open topic

So I have been contemplating a niche and a name. I haven't yet settled on it but I am working on some ideas in my head. I have some domains that seem to have no practical use since I purchased them in a bundle about three years ago. And its not easy making a decent name generically nowadays. Of course I will be using XF cloud and I am familiar with it enough to be dangerous. The niche, anything that can support a forum already has a forum. So open discussion, or chit chat as some may call it, is likely the target audience. I am posting here as I am not sure where one would post this? So I am just using my intro thread.

Well I dunno about any creation so to speak, I am just trying to think outside my norm and make something that hopefully works to some degree.

Admin forums come and go, but it didn't take very many pages to see the resources and effort put into the place. And I liked that. Plus I recognize a few names here too.

New guy here. Found this site on XF Showcase. The look and feel really is nice. That and the subject matter got me interested to join. I currently do not have a forum, but I do have an itch for one. I have been around forums since the ol' IPB1.4(?) days, and played with pretty much every flavor of software since. No big boards though. Xenforo is imo, the best there is. And I like and have used their cloud system. You know how when you have run forums for awhile, you and then your not, but you always end up thinking about them? Well, I have an itch, and a rough concept I want to do. Look forward to meeting everyone out here. CTS
