  1. Thank you. Obviously persons with no interest would not entertain themselves with visiting let alone joining. Maybe some. I believe the site can cater to both deconstruct of the known and research, but legitimizing (or popularizing) discussion is typical and normal for a site like this. I think that can be said for many forums. I don't expect I will be guiding members much in their posting style.
  2. Thank you! Yes it is a niche by all definitions. But that particular group has a great and dedicated following to the subject matter. I designed the home page to direct traffic to their objectives. I don't want to confuse a guest visitor with a thousand links everywhere. The navbar represents all 5 sections, and the home page reflects primarily subject matter subjects and minimal links to subject matter content, with site/member info on the sidebar. Sometimes I feel I overthink things lol.
  3. Thank you. TBH, I just basically threw some content up to fill spaces and test out. I haven't focused much on that at all, but that's what's next.
  4. I coulda sworn that the navbar does stay sticky, but the header scrolls up and out.
  5. I decided to show you guys finally. You are peers so you will understand that it's only a month old and has very little content. Spent all month on the mechanics and lipstick and have to take a day or two break. But I am comfortable with the first style rendition and willing to put it forward. Feel free to share your opinions, good or bad. https://classifiedtopsecret.com/
  6. I use XF on the cloud and I have found the feature set they offer is amazing. BUUUT,..... I am also a uniformist leaning minimalist. I found, since my style is based in the XF default style, that much of it in OEM form is litter taking up real estate. I don't want links on the home page leading everywhere, and I don't want all the widgets on the sidebar. I don't like the thread and post column in forumview. I removed and disabled the tag systems. I don't ever see them used enough. A few other things. I love the software, but I had to shave the door handles, chop the top, and bag it. This isn't about add-ons or product enhancements. How about you? Have you removed certain things, or streamlined certain pages or features? What oem features do you like or dislike and remove?

Cloudflare has superb DDOS protection and mitigation services. But they all ain't cheap.

It didn't effect the cloud server.
  9. To me, blogging is more about the owner/publisher. And forums are more about the 'us' factor.
  10. Unfortunatly yes It is classified: top secret I hope to push it out here soon, but there's so much to do and add content.
  11. You know, after giving it a bit of thought after my last post earlier on the subject, I realized that that is where forum opportunities may exist. The "narrowed down" niche. By that I mean, a subject you enjoy, that you participate in like minded forums that generally have a lot more forums. Focus on your interests or entertainments. I think I kinda did the same lately.
  12. Not an easy choice. They all look good. Voted.
  13. There was a time, and still is to a lesser degree, where every wannabe domainer was registering everything and anything that had words in it. And if something popped up in the news, another flurry of stupid regs. That's why I quit watching the drop lists. Mostly all junk domains.
  14. I think all the social media I will be doing, at least for now, will be limited to having the share buttons on the site. No accounts linked to it.
  15. If you are a small or startup, I don't think ads benefit, especially in the pocketbook. So its just expensive real estate being rented out cheap. Obviously when your server loads start to cost you, you have no choice but to monetize.
  16. Everything has been done. I used a few criteria when deciding my latest niche. 1. I had to have a domain that worked with the subject matter. 2. I wanted it fun and/or entertaining. Mostly for me. 3. I looked over the competition to see what they were doing. I noticed in my current choice the competition often was on old dated software, some didn't have a mobile view, and many are just lost in websites with broad spectrum categories and forums. That might limit my target market, but that is my intent.
  17. Had "an" accident? Several times lol. My last one I was parked in construction zone on the highway, got rear-ended by a drunk driver going full speed. It took two years to recover from all that. I hate drunk drivers.
  18. Thank you. Although I opened it to the public and have my basic theme and layouts done for the most part. I hesitate to post it publicly such as here for now as I currently have very few pages indexed and on the SERPs and the only other backlink would be from here. So I am waiting a bit to get some more content up and indexed and kinda test everything out first before slinging it out here. I look forward to it.
  19. If implemented on an active forum, make it to new regs only, and not retroactive. And then just make a public post/notice about it for current members.
  20. I never wish to public shame bad members. But many times bad members want to air out on the forums in a public display.

Think of the millions of legit companies and organizations that base their website on wp. In 2008? GM was kept afloat because they employed tens of thousands of workers. Too big to fail means if wp implodes, so does millions of legit websites.
  22. Almost finished the first rendition. Last layout change I need to figure out is how to get the header background image to display above the action nav bar only while in mobile responsive. Having difficulties deciding If the opaque slow fade in and out of the register button that I added was depreciating to the site. I like it, and I think it looks cheezy.

The world used WordPress. Are they too big to fail? But it sure sounds like some cracks are showing.
  24. Imho, politics ruined general topic forums for me. Edit to add: i had this contemplation when I was starting my forum. And i just didn't want the conflict that seem to ensue. Kinda tired of it all in forums.
  25. It will take another generation to forget the importance of a dot com. But if you know anything about POTS telephone systems, you know you can still hook up a dial phone to it and make it work. So yes, it will be awhile before dot com is forgotten.
