  1. I don't see how it would improve engagement. I mean, if people don't want to come, they won't, but I could be wrong. I suppose (as a 2nd thought) logging in via social media would increase signups. How do others on here feel about it?
  2. I have some rules setup, but things not mentioned are just common sense and as the owner, I can pretty much terminate who I want, with no debate.
  3. I don't allow it. It seems silly to me. I mean, join up people, come on. :D
  4. Social media can drive people to your forum. In fact, that's a good strategy because that's where the people are at. Anyway, though, you need to give a compelling reason for them to go to your site. What you have needs to be interesting.
  5. When it comes to music stuff, for instance, there are lots of tools to create notes etc.., but finding stuff that has been scanned from a copyrighted book is rather easy to spot. I guess a more challenging thing is when someone copies stuff, note for note, from a book into a music notation software thing, but that's highly unlikely. People just wouldn't go thru the time for it.
  6. I don't know what to say here really. Life is exploitive. I mean, Facebook makes money off ads and people post pics of their young kids on there, so when will the kids get paid, lol?
  7. I can handle criticism if done in a respectful way, but even respectful criticism can be annoying because so much of it (what is criticized) is subjective (in the eye of the beholder). For instance, some people don't like non .com domains or maybe they don't like hosting on free forum software (like Forumotion) and so they are snobs about that.
  8. I am quite thick skinned when it comes to politics, but a lot of people aren't. In fact, people become oversensitive, and a lot of people will bully you for your views. Those people want to be an echo chamber where people laugh and say stuff like "Yeah, Bob. Sock it to them! ha ha". Anyway, a political forum would be a challenge and possibly profitable. I've thought about it. Well, one advantage forums could bring to the table is free speech discussion. It seems like a lot of platforms censor discussion including Facebook (until recently maybe).
  9. I can donate time as far as making posts. If I see some possible investment return than money is possible. Of course, I am not trying to be too cynical. And if the shoe was on the other foot, you'd feel the same. I just got too many bills to pay at home and food is over-the-top expensive.
  10. It's cool with some situations, but other times it sounds massively fake, because it sounds too educated. It reminds me of that movie Earnest Goes to School where he acts all smart (as a comedy spoof). I mean, give me a break. :D Anyway, I think it's good on a sports forum because the bot is allowed to joke around and seem more human.
  11. I might donate to a friend who is struggling financially, and he/she wants to set up some forum to improve themselves. I mean, I like it when people work and not beg, and I'm inspired to help in that case.
  12. I wouldn't want to deal with it because it could create an unnatural environment for a forum. For instance, you might have to police everything on it to maximize SEO benefit and that's unrealistic and ridiculous. And a better alternative is getting traffic via social media or something else. Probably the cost is the same as with SEO because really good SEO will cost money, just like a good social media campaign will.
  13. I'm not interested in policing a forum. I want people to post naturally. Nonetheless, though, I want some posts to be high-quality so maybe I would hire someone and/or do some work myself. Well, I'm interested in some threads that are very professional, but that doesn't mean the replies have to be. In fact, I would rather have natural sounding replies.
  14. I don't have a favorite. All the major types, free and paid, are very appealing to me. However, though, due to certain circumstances, I have chosen to work with phpBB now, mainly because two themes on there really fit my project. Anyway, MyBB seems to be the worst, due to the alerts system difficulty, but I can't say it's not appealing software. Well, the alerts system (MyAlerts) is probably fixable if someone could just learn the code needed or perhaps they could devise a new alerts system.
  15. A forum that's on free speech hosting is where you can say what you want. That's way different than on a lot of social media. Now, of course, that doesn't mean being rude and stuff like that, but just the ability to debate things without thought police. You know what I mean? And another thing I like about forums is the fact that I'm just sick of social media. I want to see something different (graphics etc.). Does anyone else feel that same?
  16. There's nothing wrong with interesting posts, but some posts are fluffed up and not interesting. In other words, the person is just being told "Well, you got to make big posts cause I'm paying you money.", so they get on there and post a bunch of fluff. I mean, I would rather have shorter posts than have fluff. In other words, let's hear something interesting and to the point. Does anyone agree or not?
  17. I think post exchanges can be very beneficial, but there needs to be a clear idea on what you're exchanging. I mean, do you want long posts or short ones? Do you not care about the size of what your exchanging, just as long as there is activity? Well, I do know I don't want stupid stuff to be said, even if it's just short. It would be stuff like "Yeah, me too.", "I agree.". Well, there might be a time and place for that, but all the time is a bit annoying and silly.
  18. The internet wasn't around in my youth and my first experience with forums was around 2002 (when I was in my mid-twenties). It was on this bible discussion forum on Vbulletin software. It was a lot of fun, but a bit disturbing. Well, these extremists came on the forum, and I was debating them, and they were hostile, and I had never actually communicated with these types at any time before in my whole life. And I was very emotional in debating them and so it caused them to win. I was emotional because I didn't like their views.
  19. Because they're not around all the time. They're not around enough. But I understand that's just the reality of the real world. It's tough to get people to do posting packages and you can't expect them to do miracles.

I would prefer a different way to monetize if I had a forum. Well, a preferable way would be to have a classified section or members only section with something so valuable that people would be in a line to sign up. Anyway, though, this isn't the case with all niches, though. For instance, around 2011 I had some blogs in the employment niche, and they were a good moneymaker, because people go to employment sites to click on ads, not really do other stuff. In other words, they come to search for jobs, not get articles about jobs, though some might lurk around and enjoy them.
  21. I don't really like posting packages, but I do appreciate the work done in them. In other words, the people doing the work do a good job, but the problem is it's impossible to get them enough to make it seem like the posters are real members. As I said before, I need daily work (as much as possible) for at least two years. That would be the ideal situation. Does anyone agree or not?
  22. I don't engage in post exchanges at the moment. I don't think they're very beneficial unless they're done daily (as much as possible) and for at least two years. Anyway, it would be difficult to find anyone who want to do that, and people are shy to post in religious forums. Well, I think a better idea is to pay someone to post daily (as much as possible) for two years. That might seem expensive but would come out successful in the long run. Who agrees or not?

I don't use paid posters at the moment. Anyway, it would only be ideal if they could stick around for a year or more and always post regularly and a lot. That would be worth the investment, but it's tough gathering that sort of cash right now.
