The basic AI is invoked when you start a topic. You start a new topic or reply to existing topic and there is an icon that you click. A box pops up so you can ask AI to summarize the topic or reply to the topic. It's a little clunky like that. I installed a chatbot and it can be invoked by @ mentioning it or you can set it up to peply to all topics in a specific forum or forums. I am in the process of setting it up. Once it's set up I'll post so you can test it. There are also several automated tasks that can be set up. I'm only scratching the surface with it. This is really powerful stuff. It supports multiple apis too. I'm using OpenAI and Google.

Want to work with it. Especially the AI that's now included. It is very different to when I had a site on it a few years ago.

I had an interest in visual basic programming as a hobby. I created a site to share the programs I made. I hacked up a Frontpage extension guestbook script to use as a forum. I was getting tons of email asking how to use what I was giving away. That morphed into my interest in forums. I have always been amazed at how people engage on forums and the amount of information you can obtain. There was a time when forums were the place to go if you had a problem to solve. They still are. Just not to the level they used to be.

I am in the process of launching a new forum. Once I have everything set up the fun begins. I concentrate on content. I used to have a partner to help seed new communities when we started them. It's my job now. I haven't opened a new, no old content from a former site, in a while. Years in fact. I'm excited as well as scared. To seed it this time since I will buy a package from here. I am also using a paid to post model. The first 25 members that sign up and contribute 25 topics will be founders and will get paid to post. Working out the details. members after the first 25 will also have a paid to post model. All I can say is it's a general discussion forum. Coming soon.

My favorite feature is new posts. I set my bookmarks to new posts for all the forums I visit frequently. Don't really have any others.

I once made the mistake of promoting an exmod. he came back and was fine for a few weeks and then went on a deleting threads terror. Took me a few days to clean up his mess. It's best to leave sleeping dogs lie. There was a reason he was demoted.

Had a user on my first forum that would post a long goodbye thread. He'd read all the replies as a guest thinking no one knew it was him even though he said he would never return. One of the mods moved his thread into the staff forum. A week later he was back. Then a few weeks later he'd post another long goodbye. This went on for a few years until one of the other admins got tired of it and banned him.

I am happy with the growth on my tech site since I merged all the tech communities into one. In 2025 I plan to start a new general discussion forum. I have the domain. I am trying to decide if I'm going to step out of the box and use Discourse or Invision 5. Once I work that out I'll be buying some content packages to kick start it. I hope everyone and your communities do great in 2025.

I play pool and snooker. I was an athlete growing up. Lettered in football, wrestling and baseball. Played senior baseball when I was a freshman. Everyone thought I'd be the next Ted Kluszewski. He was a local guy that made it to the play in the pros for a long career. I tried out for the St. louis Cards. Got hurt in a freak accident during the tryout and that was the end of my career.
