  1. I used to use Google Domains until they sold out to Squarespace. I moved most of the domains over to Namecheap. I use HE DNS for the DNS for the sites.
  2. Heck yea. Great idea. Will help out the winner as well as here.
  3. Being Windows I have it set to pull updates once a week and if required reboot. I have a generator dedicated for the server and internet. Of course during extended outages the generator struggles. Internet is the problem. I can keep my end up. It's the provider that needs to keep theirs up.
  4. I have 1 bare metal server running vmware vsphere. Specs are xeon 6640E processor, 96gigs ram. On it I have 2 Windows 2022 Standard servers. One as a dev server the other for the sites. I have 2 internet providers. Spectrum and Verizon. I've been hosting my own servers for a long time. It's much easier to fix things when the server is in a room in your home

Welcome. I was a regular at TTI for a while. The good old days. Nice to see you again. I'll have to see if my old account still works. Never did understand why John dropped Satan.

My home was in the path or Milton. We went north to our other home. When we came back our home was ok. Neighbor lost his roof. During Helene we flooded. Had 6 inches of water in the garage and workshop. House was ok. It's raised 6 feet. Milton scared me. This is the first time since I moved down here 10 years that I left. Even up north there were 60MPH+ winds.

I seem to remember jCodes. I think some of the members of my .Net programming forum are also members there.
  8. As Shawn said the servers were right in the path of hurricane Milton. Power has been shakey. On then off. The generator keeps up. There are lags as it takes over. Should stabilize in the next few days.
  9. I got sick and the site was left online unattended. Those users registered for the 4 years it laid dormant. When I decided to re-open I found it had never been offline. I was greeted with a ton of spam all caught by the spam filters. I removed all the spam, upgraded from xenforo 1.2 to 1.5.24 and opened it up. Then I upgraded to 2.3.3. So all those members came from the site being left unattended. The spam filter worked to keep the posts in the queue. There is a post about it. Wanted to let the new users know it wasn't any sort of thing I did.
  10. I have an active license too. I don't see anywhere to download the beta in the client area.
  11. This thread is for the general discussion of the item Forum² - A Community for Forum Enthuisasts. Please add to the discussion here.
  12. How did you get the beta?
  13. I was one of the original owners of time travel forum which is now Paranormalis. That forum has really stood the test of time. I tried to log in. Can't remember my password and don't remember what email I used to register. Probably don't have it any more. If my account didn't get lost in the shuffle in the changing of hands, I think it changed hands at least 3 times, can you reset the password and PM it to me? I'd like to renew some old acquaintances. I was also one of the original time traveler debunker during the John Titor days.

Was in the middle of it. Wife and I went up north out of the track. Came home and had no damage. Neighbor lost his roof.
  15. I'm looking forward to v5. I used IPB through v3. Was a beta tester for v2 and v3. I left when I had an issue and because I use Windows servers with IIS they said they don't support windows/iis. Converted all my sites to xenforo. I do have a v4 test site up. Imported almost a million posts from one of my tech communities to see if the importers could handle it. Forum is on my test domain at https://forumadmins.org.
  16. vBulletin was king taking over from UBB the original creator of the flat forum layout you see today. Until UBB everything was threaded using Matt Wright's wwwboard scripts. With vb6 they are making a comeback.

Howdy everyone. My real name is Bob. I'm known as AWS on many forums. People kept confusing me with the other AWS, Amazon Web Services. I was the original AWS. First used the handle in 2000 when I distributed the scripts I coded in ASP and Perl. Forums have been a passion of mine since 1995 when I hacked up a Frontpage extension guestbook script to turn it into a discussion area of my Visual Basic site. I do believe it was the first forum. Through the years I've created, nurtured, bought and sold many forums. I love forums. I have made many friendships on forums. Unfortunately some of those friends have passed. I hope to make many more in the future. Thanks for letting me be a part of this community.

I'm Bob aka AWS on most sites. Been in the forum game since 1995 when I hacked up a webbot questbook extension in Frontpage extensions to act as a q&a section of my site. Anyone remember frontpage? I closed the main site https://web.archive.org/web/20110701000000*/extreme-vb.net in 2007. I had split the forum from the site https://web.archive.org/web/20040701000000*/visualbasicforum.com and sold it in 2003. A year before when VB was nearing EOL I split the site and created https://web.archive.org/web/20020801000000*/dotnetforums.net which still exists to day at http://www.xtremedotnettalk.com. Anyway I'm rambling now. Nice to meet you all.
