  1. I would like to use the 50 forum posts I won [EMBED content=thread-259]https://administrata.net/threads/giveaway-50-forum-posts-up-for-grabs.259/[/EMBED] Thanks
  2. People tend to be more receptive of something if a friend told them about it. I think word of mouth might be the best way to get people to your community.
  3. Lets see: extreme-vb.net - Visual Basic programming site - started on a hacked ASP guestbook script in 1997 visualbasicforum.com - popular Visual Basic forum -started in 1999 on wwwthreads. I'm one in the no pineapple group. Actually I prefer only sausage and mushrooms on mine.

Welcome and hello. I seen you around other forums.
  12. First was a Frontpage guestbook extension that I hacked into a threaded discussion forum. Next was UBB. Had to create an importer for the hacked up guestbook script. Then it was wwwthreads, vbulletin, IPB, xenforo and now moving back to IPB.
  13. Seen this coming. Not really a surprise. They have been selling off some assets. Squarespace took over Google Domains.

Hello Mati. Nice to meet you.

I have a black Pug and a Schnauzer.
  16. Real time notifications. Invision has this. Instead of an alert bubble at the top of the page that might or might not see there is a notification box that pops up. You can then interact right away.
  17. Yep count me in.
  18. That's in 4.0 too. Noticed it yesterday when I was getting deeper into the admin. I haven't used IPB since 3.4. Much has changed and all for the better. Blows me away how they innovate while others stagnate.
  19. Anyone remember myspace? It was supposed to replace forums. Forums survived it and even came out stronger. Forums will always be relevant. The future is not what we have now. It is what Reddit offers. Software wise the linear layout we have now is dated and is part of the reason forums are not as popular as before. The interface is too cluttered. You have to drill down to get to the content you seek. The search on forums is basically useless. You get results that are not even close to what you're looking for. This is a software problem. With Reddit the content is right in your face. Pick a topic and there are the threads and replies right there. No categories, no drilling through pages to see what you want. Forum software has to evolve. Discourse is what software has to turn into. Invision introduced a threadlist style in 4.0. It is being refined in v5. I have the default on https://www.forum-forum.com set to threadlist main page. So what is dying is the linear style of xenforo, mybb, vbulletin and the rest. Forums will remain forever.
  20. I've been experimenting with it. I spruce up the results to make it more in my style of writing. I think it makes adding quality content much easier. The only real problem isn't writing it, it's thinking of a topic.
  21. Been doing this thing since 1995. Long time and still love it.
  22. I use https://matomo.org/. Install then add some js to the sites to track visitors and members. Ditched Analytics for it a few years ago.
  23. Been doing it for over 20 years. It just made sense. I've had business class high speed internet with static IP's since 2002. It makes everything easier. Only cost is for electricity that powers the servers.
  24. No matter what the race I won't tolerate it.
  25. I will not tolerate racism or bigotry of any kind. Politics and religion are fine on my off topic forum. The the other forum it's ok, but I watch the topics very closely.
