  1. I've tried using Bravenet once. It's running FluxBB, a software that isn't even being supported anymore since the devs moved on to Flarum. They're currently having technical difficulties though so their website is down.
  2. I haven't taken advantage of Facebook Groups yet but I have done this on Reddit and it definitely worked! I just don't get on Facebook much these days but it might be worth giving this a shot.
  3. Actually, it's not as old as you think. It started as a Discord server and moved to a forum lol. The mod came out sometime in the mid 10's. Awesome I look forward to seeing your community running Xenforo and seeing all the changes it'll bring!
  4. Congrats to you both, well done!
  5. I was browsing r/redditalternatives again like I do from time to time and came across this one called Discuit. It's quite popular already, I don't know if it's as popular as Lemmy is however. I haven't joined yet, but I definitely plan on joining it. Unfortunately it does seem that they don't allow self promotion, which is discouraging. I suppose they don't want people just to join to spam. Still if you want to check it out here's the link. https://discuit.org/
  6. I've seen a forum hosted on Proboards that has thousands of members and is quite active. It's a community based around hacking the fan port of Sonic 3 and Knuckles to pc called Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited. If you put the effort into your forum the software shouldn't matter that much. Though paid scripts usually do have better SEO tools.
  7. I've only used Proton VPN, I'm afraid to purchase a subscription from NordVPN because I feel like they get hacked quite often. I haven't tried out Brave's VPN yet.

  9. It's people's laziness is what it is. People don't want to take the time to join a forum to engage in conversations like they used to. They want to be able to access communities with a few clicks and be able to participate in them. Whenever Reddit increased the price of their API for third party apps, many people were freaking out because of the blackouts and didn't know what to do with themselves. I mentioned in one thread that I didn't have a problem with the Reddit blackout since forums exist and I got responses from people saying "They didn't like having to sign up on a few different websites." They preferred Reddit because you have one global account. I mentioned Proboards and how they have one global sign in account but it fell on deaf ears. Likewise Facebook falls under this same category because Groups exist and if you have a Facebook account you have access to groups if you join them. Sure there's still people that use them, and honestly I feel that the people like us who like forums still are more creative. We take the time to make our own spaces to share information with likeminded people. Whereas most of society prefers to use premade places that can be shut down at any moment and they just don't even realize it.
  10. Damn that's a nice look forum you got! Never played the game before, I might check it out whenever I get the time. I usually don't play PvP games often though and if I do I just usually play PvE lol.
  11. It's interesting that Youtube TV exists too. Still I hardly ever watch actual tv these days, I stream everything and a good number of things I watch are on Youtube.
  12. I used Forumotion for my first forum. I had no clue what I was doing and I picked phpBB3 as my forum type of choice and the ACP confused the heck out of me. It was a Pokemon ROM hacking community and this was at a time where there were only a few tools to make minor edits. I also had no knowledge of the Pokemon games technical wise at the time. :V
  13. Welp if they do this, it's going to be even more difficult to keep forums around. Still I'm not going to cave in a shut down my forums for a Discord server! I think they've tried this approach before when they came out with their half a**ed attempt at making forums on Discord.

Lemmy might be better, since it's a Reddit alternative and a good number of people are wanting to stay away from the big traditional platforms. Also maybe try Bluesky, I'm not sure if you can reach an audience there but the more platforms you promote your forum on the better IMO!

Your forum looks awesome Senkusha! I'm a Larper myself so I'm not too big into text based roleplaying and the only magical girl anime I got into was Sailor Moon thanks to my wife lol. Best of luck with it! You should definitely promote it on Reddit and Lemmy if you haven't yet!
  16. No I don't think you should do this. You'd deter potential members from joining your websites and may even upset existing users.

It's a shame you have to sell your forum, but life goes that way sometimes. I hope you can find the perfect buyer!
  18. Huh I guess you do learn something new everyday! Why am I not surprised that the CIA did this? Wouldn't surprise me if there's more spying going on over on social media platforms.
  19. As I said over on Forum Promotion I just wish it would stay offline lol. I'm also glad no one got hurt in the fire.

Awesome I hope you can get some good money for it! Happy Memorial Day to you as well Nebulous. Let us remember those who have fallen in battle to keep America free.
  21. You know I was thinking about this thread while browsing MyBB's support forum. The reason why is because a good handful of people were talking about how forums were becoming more popular again. https://community.mybb.com/thread-243317.html
  22. I never heard of Glitch until this post, really sucks that they're ending website hosting. Looks like it was a cool place to deploy bots as well as apps, and I bet lots of people used them to make Discord bots.

Good evening everyone! I lost track of time playing Sonic Origins, I planned on hopping online sooner than I did oops. xD
  24. Most of the time for me at least is if the topic just calls to me. If it looks interesting and I have something to say and chime into the discussion that's when I'll hit that "post reply" button.
