  1. I prefer Joomla to Wordpress myself. I find the ACP easier to navigate and it's much easier to install plugins and post articles. I've tried using Drupal in the past but I didn't really care for it. Never tried any of the other platforms mentioned but I've tried php Nuke in the past and liked it as well but I think the project is dead.
  2. Absolutely, it's nice when members start posting because you don't seem crazy just replying to yourself all the time. :P Of course it's good to add content when your members aren't online, but it can get lonely if you're the only one posting.
  3. This article really does a great job summarizing how much the internet has been going downhill and technology in general. I like how they mention Windows 11 and brought up that all the issues people are having with 11 was going on in 10. I can tell you I've had way more issues with Windows 10 than I did with Windows 11. And of course we're seeing social media platforms being hit with censorship and banning in the US as of late, yet many people still refuse to get off these platforms and make their own. Soon it will come back to bite them again and they will lose access to their posts, videos, and pictures eventually.

  5. Nope I don't allow this on any of my current forums. I have allowed this on one of my old gaming forums, but to be honest it wasn't even active so I didn't have any issues come from it. Facebook groups allow anonymous posting now btw, but I think it just leads to trouble on any platform.
  6. I really hope Meta is found guilty of piracy, but money talks. I can only hope this lawsuit will cost them lots of money, and hopefully that money causes their platforms to eventually fall due to the company having to make changes in order to keep afloat.
  7. Honestly when it comes to video games, graphics don't make or break a game for me. Websites on the other hand is another thing. I look for gameplay, story, and music before I care about graphics with games. Websites to me should look appealing however, a good theme that fits the niche of the website is something I look for whenever visiting other people's websites and it's something I try to aim for when it comes to my own websites. When it comes to looking at new communities to join, I look mainly at layout, content, and the theme and this is how I determine if I'm going to join or not.

Welcome to Administrata fellow geek! I hope you enjoy your stay here with us!
  9. That book sounds interesting, I think some of those points have been posted on webmaster sites like Administrata though. But having a tangible book to go back and reference without having to move between tabs on a browser might make things easier for those who are wanting to learn some good tips on creating a community.
  10. Politics really bring out the worst in people at times. Not saying that everyone who are into politics cause issues, but debates on certain subjects can get heated pretty quickly and name calling can happen. Some people cannot easily debate, and just attack other people for stating their views. About the pros though, you'd get some good conversations going if you're talking about a hot topic and this can bring more activity to your forum.
  11. I'll go ahead and tag this one!

I used to enjoy going to Six Flags St. Louis as a kid. Now I am not really a fan of roller coasters, I'm afraid of heights and being a bigger guy I probably can't fit on roller coasters much anymore anyways.

You and me both, we're slowly turning into a fascist country. I get wanting to help our country out of course, but there's so many things he's messing up here along with his stupid Agenda 47 and even though he isn't behind Project 2025, it's still coming into effect. I can't wait for these next four years to be done and over with.
  15. Forums are much better for finding answers to questions. They're way more organized than any other platform, chances are if you're looking for a in depth answer to your question you're going to find it on a forum. Reddit is okay, but it's still not as organized as your traditional forum.

Good evening everyone! It's not my Friday yet, tomorrow is so I have one more day of work then I'm off. Anyone going to watch the Super Bowl this weekend or have a party? I might watch it to see the commercials and I believe a new Mountain Dew flavor is going to drop that day too so they'll probably officially announce it. I think it's going to be a new Baja flavor.
  17. I'm thinking we're going to see a rise of self hosted communities soon. Platforms like Reddit and Facebook are censoring certain content now, and I'm hoping more people will open their eyes and realize that their communities hosted on these platforms can be taken down in any moment in time, without any notice.
  18. Well that's depressing. Reddit is fine, but forums are so much better since they're more organized. But since they dropped out of the GPU business, maybe it was just easier and cheaper for the company to move from a self hosted forum to a subreddit where they don't have to pay a penny to keep the community running since I'm sure they still make good money but I'm sure they were making more when they also made GPUs.
  19. I think admins should continue to add to the discussions on their forums, but sometimes life does get in the way and you do need to step back. Also when you feel burnout coming it's probably best to step back for only a day or two.

Glad to hear that you're mother is okay! Also glad she wasn't involved in the bigger wreck.

This reminds me of the old internet for some reason. I guess it's because it's a simple website, you click and that's it really but you can have fun doing so.
  22. I only dealt with really annoying spammers on Proboards, they come flooding in and you need to take care of them as soon as possible. I've seen old established forums become abandoned and taken over by spam.
  23. I would only sell my forums if something was going on in my life and I couldn't be an administrator anymore. Other than that no I would keep my forums.
  24. I was born in 1990 so right at the beginning of the 90's! I was a Sega kid growing up and still a die hard Sonic fan but it really was special back in the day being a 4 year old watching Sonic run across the screen. Also seeing that switch from 2D to 3D games was really something! I also remember hanging outside and having to come home as soon as the streetlights came on.
  25. I think it's fair if you've got certain content like themes or graphics. As for knowledge, I suppose it depends on what you're sharing but I think it should be free. Maybe keep it to where only members can view certain content, but don't outright hide it behind a paywall.
