The Top 5 Things Visitors Look for Before Joining your Forum
I wouldn't say all old software are built the same. Yeah some of them are a bit outdated looking outside the box like UBB Threads or FudForum but I think only old specific forums are using these platforms. Not all free forum software looks old. UBB Threads isn't even a free software either, which is kind of depressing to see them charging so much for a platform that feels outdated. Still either way I really like the points brought up in this thread and it's true! No one wants to join an empty community or one that doesn't outright have a clear direction.

Selling Forum
Will you be sharing it here with us? I'm curious to see what your new project is about.

Favorite tech brands?
I'm not really brand loyal as much as I used to be. I used to only get HP computers but my main one is a Asus Nitro. I have an Android but it's not a Samsung, it's a Motorola.

Drop In Google Indexing Less Since Late May 2025?
I had a look at Gex Forums in Google Search Console and yeah looks the same for me. :S

bonsai
I wouldn't have the patience for it either, but it's pretty cool to see others growing bonsai trees! I look forward to seeing that sapling grow!

Pay attention to where you're marketing your forum!
I haven't had the chance to promote my websites in real life anywhere. I thought about maybe getting some bumper stickers made, I did bring up the fact to a few coworkers that I own a few websites. I never mentioned the name of them though. I did manage to get some members on Gex Forums via r/gex. I think it's a good idea to interact with a few groups or subreddits and ask when the time is right if you can promote your forum.

What strategies do you use to prevent cliques and division in your community?
I've never had to deal with cliques on my forums. I will say it's probably best to keep political and religious topics at bay since these threads are usually the ones that tend to drive a wedge with people. This is easy to do on niche based forums, you can enforce a no politics/no religious rule. But if you do have these types of threads just keep an eye on them more often.

How to create a good community
These are great points! You always want to bring your members back and make fresh, new content. I love posting on forums where I can learn new things about anything really, which is why I always enjoy reading your threads Cpvr!

How do you handle the lifecycle of older content within your community?
I always keep threads open as long as they don't break any rules. Years down the line you never know when people might google something and come across one of your old threads and want to contribute to the conversation. Also you could do some extra research on whatever topic the thread is about and add some interesting tidbits. I tend to do this myself on my forums at times.

Has technology done more harm than good?
I believe technology has made our lives much easier and honestly more fascinating. I can't imagine living in a world without video games, life would be so boring without them. So I think it's done more good than harm. However like people have mentioned in the thread, it can do some harm. Just like anything good in life, you should moderate how much tech you're using so it doesn't affect your health physically and mentally.

Using a Credits System
Since your forum is based around roleplaying, why not integrate credits into currency your members can use throughout their journeys? You can have a merchant character keep track of things, like a shop keeper would in a roleplaying game.

Digg’s founders explain how they’re building a site for humans in the AI era
I wish they weren't going to use AI for moderation, but I am happy to see that they're going to attempt to prevent AI generated content from taking over Digg. I just wish the interface didn't look like a clone of Facebook/Twitter. :V I'm still going to sign up as soon as I'm able to regardless though.

Is AI Helping the World or Draining Its Energy?
I think it's funny that people were complaining about NFTs and mining draining energy but they're turning a blind eye on AI. I wasn't hyped for NFTs and think they were stupid, but it's kind of ironic and kind of sad at the same time lol.

Eminem vs Meta: Rapper sues Facebook parent for $109million after using his hits on its platform
I hope he's able to win this lawsuit. Since he didn't give them permission to use his music, then they shouldn't have used it. I like how a spokesperson says "they've been negotiating in good faith" but clearly that's not the case if they're being sued.
