When starting a forum, I do not see an issue with this per se. However, once the forum is established, let the community run the community!

How do you find subreddits that are within your niche. For you and I, we both have niches with limited subreddits.

This reminds me of what Digg.com did. They were WAY bigger than Reddit back in the day. They implemented one or two features that the community hated, and the rest was/is history

For me it is always the /latest tab as it shows me what posts I have missed while I have been getting my beauty sleep

TBH, the only reason I chose Discourse was it looked different than most gaming forums out there. Also, the zero dollar cost is pretty inviting!
