  1. Thanks! It was great!
  2. Out of everyone who responded, no one else is experiencing the issue. Are you using the forum on a computer or mobile device by chance?
  3. I'll keep looking into it. I'm asking the community if they're experiencing it. I am not, myself.

    Welcome!!
  5. The 250 credits 5 threads + 20 posts is what I'd love to order for: https://offtopicforum.com/
  6. Is Discord something you can self-host or is it just rented space? If just rented space, that would be my main reason for choosing a forum over it.
  7. When I bought a forum (well over a decade ago), it was before all the extra rules and laws that are now in place over user data and protection. However, I still offered a way out for those who didn't want to remain a member. I offered an account deletion option. Not posts but the account yes, post username would be changed to something generic. Out of the 15,000 members I got from it, maybe 2 asked to be deleted. I think you should always offer a way out. It's ethical to do so.
  8. I try to make it a point that I give them full discretion on taking action when needed. They don't need to ask permission to ban a member if needed. If they do it wrongly, it will be a different situation, but I want them to make the decision on their own without asking me unless it's super complex.
  9. It was logging me out and after I enabled that setting, it quit doing it. I use Chrome but not with all that extension.
  10. How secure is information on a flat file versus a database?
  11. Choosing the right niche is important for forum creating. Some choose them based on their interests while others choose them based on a trend. Why did you choose yours? Do you feel you made the right choice by choosing your niche and creating a community within it?
  12. What do you think users of WP should prepare for? What should we have in our backburners?

You and me both, my friend!
  14. That's what I've always felt it was, just a "modern" version of an IRC channel.
  15. I was shocked that I got that domain!
  16. I didn't have Enable board URL canonicalization enabled! Duh! That should be fixed now. Thank you for letting me know :)
  17. I've considered writing "BikeSouthernIllinois.com" across the gravel of a local Southern Illinois bike trail I ride. That would definitely be a form of guerrilla marketing. I think it would really be niche specific on how you can accomplish it or not. For my hiking forum, maybe I could create "flash sponsored groups hikes" in different areas and print a bunch of business cards with a QR code that goes to the forum. Just to name a few things.
  18. This thread is for the general discussion of the link Off Topic Forum. Please add to the discussion here.
  19. Gorilla marketing is when you use surprise or unconventional means of advertising or marketing something. A flash mob, for example, is a form of gorilla marketing. How do you all feel about using such a technique for marketing online communities? If any of you have used this marketing strategy, tell us about it!
  20. V7N... That brings back some memories! Interesting take on this idea. I guess I never really thought about it that way. I always considered it to reward the first few who helped get things off the ground. I never really looked at the negative part of it but now I am considering that!

Have fun! We'll hold down the fort :)
  22. Not a problem. I join them all haha. I'm a forum addict. Just joined yours :D

I guess I'm a little like that bit different. I'm madly in love with my wife. I don't like being away from her and she doesn't like being away from me. But friends, while I am a good friend and always there for friends, we typically grow apart or not "hang out" as much. Maybe it's an age thing. I'm 40, married, and I spend a lot of time with my family. I rarely spend time with my friends anymore.
  24. On November 1st, I'll be starting our first Forum of the Month competition. I just launched our first Forum Referral Competition. The forum is growing nicely. It makes me smile to be able to log back into AAF again!
