Staff Selection - What's Your Process?
As a human resources professional, I do a lot of talent screening, interviewing, and selection for my company. My role is to help management create a stellar team ready to tackle all of our challenges. This process takes time, attention, and lots of reading. My current process is this (in a nutshell): Resume/application prescreen to filter in those who would be possible choices Make a first contact attempt with email to try to schedule an initial prescreening interview (Follow up according to number of candidates/interest/urgency of position) Do an initial teams interview to get to know the candidate, their experience, what research they did, etc. Send qualified and decent choices over to management to review for a secondary interview on site at the branches. There's obviously more to it but I spend a lot of time using the STAR interview method to assess behavior in an interview. This got me thinking - how do we select the right teammates for our forums? What is our processes? What is lacking in our staff selection processes? Let me know below how you select the right talent for your project!

Need threads created for town forum
I can do the fifth and final spot. Edit: Finished 13 posts and will finish out tomorrow. King Belieal , the Wanted forum needs 2 more topics and the Buy/Sell forum needs 4 more topics to be compliant with the OP's request. Can you help with this with the 4 accounts you’re running?

Meta staff torrented nearly 82TB of pirated books for AI training — court records reveal copyright violations
That is an absurd amount of data. Assuming no settlements, I’d be interested to see the total damages that can be claimed with that amount. Realistically, they will settle for a much lesser amount with file owners receiving far less in damages.

Do You Allow Multiple Accounts
There are very few circumstances where I would allow a secondary account. One would be for posting packages during early stages of a forum. The other would be in situations where a staff member wants peace while posting without the constant barrage of being a staff member. I’ve seen this second example a lot on RuneScape forums where mod accounts were separated from personal accounts to allow for some enjoyment. Overall, I’m not super sold on either scenario but can see its uses.

What's your motive behind creating a forum?
Honestly, I’m enjoying learning new skills. If I get to talk about and share a hobby of mine in the process, it’s that much more rewarding.

Elon Musk-led team submits $97.4B bid for OpenAI
At this point, I think OpenAI has more power than X could hope to have. I'd also be curious to know where the amount for Musk's bid would come from considering the issues he apparently had trying to acquire Twitter previously.

Do you prefer to do your own SEO or do you hire someone to do it?
Absolutely, AI is only as good as the human reviewing it. It’s a great jumpstart tool though to help get you moving forward.

Do you prefer to do your own SEO or do you hire someone to do it?
I think with resources like ChatGPT, doing your own SEO work is more doable now than ever before. I would find value in learning the skill as a fresh community starting out likely wouldn’t have the resources necessary to hire someone for this purpose.

What decade were you born in?
I was born in 94. Grew up playing N64 and Gameboy games. Had my mom's Atari as well. My PC used dial up interview and I played Zoo Tycoon almost religiously. I enjoyed burning CDs and watching MTV and VH1 music videos. The VH1 metal documentaries were great. Cribs and Pimp My Ride were a lot of fun to watch too

What are some effective ways to learn how to create a community?
I think when it comes to community building, there is nothing better than having spent time as a community member yourself. Watch, see what you both like and don't like, and write down ideas to use later on. Additionally, resources such as ChatGPT can provide excellent ideas on how to navigate specific issues. Textbooks are probably good depending on what you can find. A lot of leadership principles and community building are parallel to real world management and human resources strategy.

Using Reddit as a Keyword Research Tool to find Topics around your Niche
I’ve not tried this yet but I see the value in this. Reddit seems to THE forum of the internet now a days. I usually read through Reddit before making a big purchase or make a major decision. I’ll have to try this as I open up my 3D printing forum.

What's your take on members without an avatar?
Personal preference - people “decorate” their accounts. My office in real life is decked out with nerdy and sentimental items (LEGO, degrees, Flo from Progressive bobble head, various stuffed animals, relics from old jobs, etc.). I feel my profile is my forum “office” where I get to showcase and offer up discussion pieces. As for other members, I also prefer when they decorate their “spaces.” However, I value what the content provided whether they decorate their spaces or not. I think one way to work around this is to have solid stock avatars in place that still make the design flow look good still. I’d rather look at well designed art than the first letter of a username in a circle.

OpenAI to integrate SearchGPT into ChatGPT before 2024 ends
I like the idea of ChatGPT empowered search as an augment. However, I wouldn’t want to replace Google Search with ChatGPT entirely. I somehow made ChatGPT my default search browser here at work for a few days through an add-on. I found that this made my search take longer in some cases especially for commonly used links such as Indeed where I just needed the search bar to take me directly to the page.

Would you rather buy or build a community?
I think either path can result in success if done correctly. New forums require dedication, time, investment, and a lot of work to hopefully get off the ground and meet your personal goals. It may be a long time, if ever, before a financial recoupment is observed. However, as you said, you get total control over the ultimate direction. Existing forums offer a dedicated community. However, change will inevitably disrupt those regulars’ norms and will result in disagreement, hurt feelings, and potential departures. If I had to choose, I would probably purchase an existing community and slowly work towards my overall mission. If I’m making a purchase, it’s likely that the pathway the original owner took aligned with my own visions to some extent otherwise I wouldn’t be purchasing it. To navigate an acquisition, I’d get in slowly to learn and implement small changes over time. I’d also work heavily to gain the community’s trust and would have open and honest communication with the community about where I’d like to see the project go. This way, the community has a chance to be heard and you have a chance to garner valuable feedback that will help guide the future of the forum.

Design Choice and Customer Engagement
I grew up playing Nintendo 64 and Gameboy games. The graphics always left a lot to imagination but I had fun nonetheless. In fact, I didn’t consider the graphics until I became an adult. I’ve observed that my tolerance for graphics has continued to remain lower than some. For instance, I see a lot of people who refuse to play a game because the graphics aren’t top tier (ie, newer Pokemon games?). In thinking about this, I began to consider the role of visual design from a webmaster lens. What balance must a webmaster strike when trying to engage site users with worthy content while also juggling design? My question to you, the reader, is to consider and share what you’re “Must Haves,” “Cool to Haves,” and “Dealbreakers” are when deciding whether to join a forum. I’m not asking what you build into your own communities but what is needed to be a part of an outside community?

Adopted Security Measures
Part of being an administrator is ensuring that your members and your site remain safe. This can be a daunting task if you aren’t proactive with your efforts. What measures do you take to secure your forum? What methods are automated and what do you do manually to help with site security?
