DOJ indicates it’s considering Google breakup following monopoly ruling
I’ve seen that their partnerships with Mozilla may come to an end along with Apple, so this may help other search engines gain some marketshare, however, it could hurt Mozilla has a business since they rely on Google a lot.

Tracking Your Traffic
It’s similar to Google Search Console but offers more in-depth data. It shows where your backlinks come from, along with their anchor texts, and includes a keyword research section. There’s also a “Top Insights” area that identifies pages on your site that may need improvement. Additionally, the “Site Scan” feature scans your site and alerts you to any technical SEO issues.

Are smaller communities better than larger online communties?
Smaller communities often feel more close-knit and welcoming because most members are familiar with each other and are accustomed to regular conversations. In contrast, larger platforms may have thousands of users active at the same time, making it more difficult to connect and interact with familiar faces. What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think smaller online communities are better than larger ones? Why or why not?

Favorite methods of growing your community
Signature advertising is one of my favorite methods as well. You never know who might join your forum after seeing your signature link, so I always try to use my signature for marketing as much as possible. Social media marketing can be somewhat time-consuming, but it often pays off in the long run.

Internet Archive hacked, data breach impacts 31 million users
The Internet Archive’s “Wayback Machine” has experienced a data breach after a hacker infiltrated the site and accessed a database containing 31 million unique user records. News of the incident began spreading on Wednesday, when visitors to archive.org encountered a JavaScript alert left by the hacker, announcing the breach. The message read: “Ever feel like the Internet Archive is held together by a thread and ready to collapse in a security disaster? Well, it just did. See 31 million of you on HIBP!” The reference to “HIBP” points to Have I Been Pwned, a data breach alert service founded by cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt. The hacker had shared the stolen Internet Archive database with Hunt nine days prior. The 6.4GB SQL file, named “ia_users.sql,” contains details about the platform’s registered users, including email addresses, screen names, password change records, Bcrypt-hashed passwords, and other internal information. According to Hunt, the compromised database includes 31 million unique email addresses, with a large number of affected users already registered for breach notifications on HIBP. Once the data is fully processed, users will be able to verify whether their personal information was part of the breach by using the HIBP tool. To validate the authenticity of the breach, Hunt reached out to individuals listed in the compromised data, including cybersecurity researcher Scott Helme. Helme allowed BleepingComputer to share his exposed record, confirming that the hashed password in the database matched the one stored in his password manager. Hunt initiated a disclosure process with the Internet Archive three days prior, giving them 72 hours before the data would be added to HIBP. However, no response has been received from the organization. Details on how the breach occurred or if any additional data was compromised remain unknown. On the same day, the Internet Archive also suffered a DDoS attack, which has since been claimed by the BlackMeta hacktivist group, who have threatened further attacks. My introduction
- How to Find Discipline When Motivation is Lacking
You need to develop the ability to do hard things even when you don’t feel like it. That might not be what you want to hear, but tough tasks won’t wait for you. When you hesitate to pursue your goals, others are pushing forward. In a few years, what matters will be the visible results—success. “Do What You Feel” Is Bad Advice Sometimes, small decisions can have massive consequences. Acting impulsively on momentary desires can lead to long-term setbacks. You might not do these things because you want to sabotage your future, but rather because they satisfy a current urge. Those urges stem from basic instincts, and giving in to them moves you away from deliberate, thoughtful decision-making. What feels good now may not align with what will benefit you years down the line. You know what you should do, but urges often pull you in a different direction. If you plan to build a better future for yourself, start by making decisions today that will pay off in the long run. “The first and best victory is to conquer self. To be conquered by self is, of all things, the most shameful and vile.” — Plato How to Find Discipline When Motivation is Lacking In the end, discipline is what gets you through. Is that a bad thing? Only if you see it that way. Discipline is a skill you can learn. Make It Easier on Yourself • Start for 5 minutes: One of the easiest tricks is to just begin. Commit to working on something for 5 minutes. Starting is often the hardest part, but once you do, it’s easier to keep going. We tend to dislike unfinished tasks lingering in our minds. Build a Strong Foundation • Write down your thoughts: Putting your thoughts on paper can bring clarity. Write about your goals—such as doing hard things when you don’t feel like it—and identify the challenges ahead. Use mind maps or drawings to help clarify your thoughts. Keep going until your mind is clear. • Plan: Once the mental fog is lifted, create a realistic plan. Identify one practical step you can take to improve the next time you face a difficult situation. Also, think of ways to avoid getting into that situation in the first place. “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” — Jim Rohn Remember to Decompress You’re not a machine. Rest is a crucial part of productivity. Make sure to schedule time for both work and rest, and stick to those times consistently. Balance is key to sustaining discipline.- Would you take over an old member account?
I believe it’s wrong to log into a user’s account and start posting as if you were that user. I’ll never understand why some forum owners decide to do this. It’s much better to post under your own account. What if the actual user finds out that you’re using their name and impersonating them?- DOJ indicates it’s considering Google breakup following monopoly ruling
The Department of Justice late Tuesday indicated that it was considering a possible breakup of Google as an antitrust remedy. The DOJ said it was “considering behavioral and structural remedies that would prevent Google from using products such as Chrome, Play, and Android to advantage Google search.” The judge has yet to decide on the remedies, and Google will likely appeal, drawing out the process potentially for years. The Department of Justice (DOJ) made significant recommendations late Tuesday regarding Google’s search engine practices, hinting at a potential breakup of the tech giant as an antitrust solution. In a filing, the DOJ outlined possible measures to curb Google’s monopoly, which could involve contract restrictions, product requirements to ensure non-discrimination, data-sharing mandates, and structural changes. The department is also exploring whether to prevent Google from leveraging products like Chrome, Play, and Android to give its search engine an unfair advantage, especially over emerging competitors using technologies such as artificial intelligence. The DOJ further proposed limiting or banning default agreements and revenue-sharing arrangements tied to search products, including the high-cost deals Google has with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung devices. To mitigate this, the DOJ suggested implementing a “choice screen” that would allow users to select alternative search engines. These recommendations aim to dismantle Google’s current control over search distribution and prevent future dominance in the space. The filing comes in the wake of a U.S. judge’s ruling in August, which found that Google holds a monopoly in the search market. This decision followed the DOJ’s 2020 landmark case, which argued that Google maintained its dominance through barriers to entry and a feedback loop reinforcing its control. The court found that Google had violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act, which prohibits monopolistic practices. Google’s president of global affairs, Kent Walker, stated that the company intends to appeal the ruling, emphasizing that the court acknowledged the high quality of Google’s search products in its decision. Additionally, the DOJ recommended that Google share its search index data and models with competitors, including those related to AI-powered search and ad ranking systems. The agency is also considering restrictions on Google’s use of certain data that cannot be easily shared due to privacy concerns. Judge Amit Mehta is expected to rule on these remedies by August 2025, though any appeals by Google could delay a final outcome for years. In response to the DOJ’s filing, Google’s vice president of regulatory affairs, Lee-Anne Mulholland, described the recommendations as “radical” and warned that breaking up products like Chrome or Android could have widespread negative impacts on various industries. Legal experts suggest that while a breakup of Google is unlikely, the court may push for the company to abandon certain exclusive agreements, such as those with Apple. They also believe that the court may encourage making it easier for users to switch to other search engines. Google’s search business remains highly profitable, with “Google Search & Other” generating $48.5 billion in revenue in the second quarter alone, accounting for 57% of Alphabet’s overall revenue. The company holds a dominant 90% share of the search market. Meanwhile, in a separate antitrust case, a U.S. judge recently issued a permanent injunction requiring Google to provide alternatives to its Google Play store for Android apps. Another antitrust case focusing on Google’s ad tech business also concluded in September. Good evening! How was your day?- Google is testing verified checkmarks in search
Google is testing a new verification feature in its search results to help users avoid clicking on fraudulent or fake website links. Some users have noticed blue verified checkmarks next to business links, indicating that the company — such as Meta or Apple — is legitimate, rather than a copycat trying to exploit a well-known brand. “We regularly test features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google,” Google public affairs representative Molly Shaheen explained to The Verge. Jay Peters, a colleague, spotted these checkmarks beside official links for Microsoft, Meta, Epic Games, Apple, Amazon, and HP. However, the checkmarks disappeared when he logged into a different Google account, suggesting that this feature is still in a limited testing phase. When hovering over a checkmark, a message appears stating that “Google’s signals suggest this business is the one it claims to be,” based on factors like website verification, Merchant Center data, and manual reviews, according to Shaheen. This experiment seems to be an extension of Google’s Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) system, which shows verification checkmarks in Gmail for verified senders. Google has not officially announced the search checkmarks or provided a timeline for a broader rollout.
