- What ad companies have you used to monetize your community?
I wonder if it depends on the ad positions that you’re using with Google Adsense as they’re as some positions that don’t perform so well. Google adsense is also blocked by some ad blockers as well, so that might be why it’s not a huge revenue earner like it used to be. In the past, it wasn’t blocked by a lot of ad blockers.- How to Market Your Forum: Discuss Tips
Marketing your forum is one of the key strategies for attracting new members, especially if you’re focused on building your brand. While it can be highly effective, it does require a significant investment of time and effort. It’s always a good idea to start with platforms you’re already familiar with. These platforms will work in your favor and help you connect with potential members more effectively. There are many ways to promote your forum, from free advertising to paid campaigns. Whether you choose to invest money or dedicate time to spreading the word, focus on networks where you can remain active and engaged. Remember, the more visibility and publicity your forum has, the greater its chances of success. If you’re active on social media, make sure to share your forum topics and include relevant hashtags. When sharing your threads, consider using different variations of their content to keep things fresh. This approach helps users on those platforms learn more about your community. Sharing across the internet is key to growing your forum. Platforms like Bluesky, Twitter, and Tumblr are great for promoting your content. Their reposting features allow your content to reach a broader audience as their followers can discover your forum too. Another effective method for promoting a forum is leveraging question-and-answer sites. Find these platforms and identify questions that are relevant to your forum’s niche. Provide valuable answers and include a link to your forum. This tactic not only brings in new members but also helps establish your forum as a trusted authority on the subject. This strategy can also be applied to platforms like Reddit. So, how often do you market your forum? What tactics have you found effective in promoting your community?- Happy New Year from Administrata!

Same here. I’ve noticed some communities using bots to respond to posters as an engagement tactic, but doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of building a community? Is the goal to provide a sense of belonging for humans, or just to inflate activity with bots? Some social media platforms are already overrun with bot-generated content. Do we really want to see that kind of artificial interaction spilling over into forums too? Using bots to respond to support questions makes sense to me. They can be a valuable tool for assisting the staff team and ensuring users get help when staff members aren’t available. It’s a practical way to bridge the gap and provide timely support.- Developer Snippets: Code, Laugh, Learn

- Bluesky surpasses 10 million users
I’m not entirely sure as Bluesky has the “feeds” feature instead of just one dedicated feed, so users can choose what type of content you’d like to interact with. They’ve been doing quite well so far. It’s also possible for a developer to create other things using Bluesky’s platform, so that’s something that makes them unique https://docs.bsky.app/blog/building-on-atproto- 25 Threads for Just BS

I’ve never heard of their forum, but I did find a press release they launched: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140716005430/en/Bubblews-Officially-Launches-Its-Innovative-Social-Media-Platform-for-Good They also got mentioned in CBS news right after the press release: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/social-media-sites-that-pay-you-for-posting/ I wasn’t able to find the Bloomberg article you mentioned. Do you know if they were the first paid-to-post forum?- The Things that can Automatically Kill a Forum: How to prevent them from happening
They also received significant media attention, which forums rarely get unless the owner proactively launches a press release or marketing campaign. If Threads weren’t owned by Meta, it’s unlikely it would have gained so much publicity so quickly. For forums, the key to sustained daily activity is providing valuable resources and fostering organic content that genuinely engages users. This could include post exchanges or encouraging friends and family to post. Every possible tactic should be utilized, especially in the early stages, to build momentum. The more active your forum appears, the easier it will be to attract new members.- The use of AI bots on forums
What are your thoughts on using AI bots to respond to forum posts? Do you think it’s a good idea or a bad idea? Personally, I’m not a fan of using AI bots in a community. I believe it’s a poor approach to community building, especially since an AI bot isn’t an actual member and lacks authenticity. It raises an important question: Are you building a community for users, or for bots? - What ad companies have you used to monetize your community?
