I created my first forum in 2017 as a part of my multi author wordpress blog. I created the forum to allow my in house writers to discuss about writing. I was running the forum until I sold the blog. I mainly used wordpress until 2021 because it was easy to operate. I created my first forum using a proper forum software in 2022. It was entirely different experience and it was a rewarding experience. My experiment with different niches and different software tells me that it is really difficult to build a thriving forum. That's because very few people are interested in text based content.

I was using credit for my sport forum but after the rebranding, I haven't added back. I was thinking about using credits to allow users to withdraw cash, especially for those with premium membership. I was also using it for gamification, and digital items. sadly, we did not have any sale.

That would be the developers of forum sofware. I first tried wordpress in 2012, it has changed a lot. I first used indie forum in 2015, and the forums are pretty same in 2025. Look at how social media has changed, and now just look at how the indie communities are doing. The forum leaders are too complacent with the design and features forum software is offering.

I have never used free forum hosting but I have used a couple of free website hosting. From blogging platform like blogger and wordpress to website builders like weebly, I have used multiple platforms to create free website. That was back in the ways when I did not have a self hosted website. I have also used free domains from freenom (I think the service has been scrapped now) and free website hosting from 000webhost.

That's very true. I once hired a freelancer on Fiverr, I wasn't happy with his review, so I gave him poor review. he took a revenge by reporting my Facebook page associated my website. facebook did not bother to take a look on my lifestyle style and went ahead to block the link. I was unable to share my website links. It is very important to keep your brand perception positive around public platforms.

Those most be very old forums, maybe from the era when social apps like tiktok did not exist and video broadcasting was not a thing on Facebook and Instagram. I haven't seen any free hosted or open source forums created in recent times with a huge audience and activities.
