Is a blog really just a forum with other users unable to post "new threads"?
If a blog is niche enough, I don't see how frequent commenters can't also develop parasocial relationships among each other and it too become an 'us' factor.

Probably because it's much easier to get WHMCS and allow for people to sign up with full control to deploy WordPress. But, there are free blogging sites that don't use WordPress. I could see XenForo being a competitor to those, but the market would be very limiting in how many you could get on. Using Bob's UBS might help... but doable with forum nodes. There are also no customizability features built-in where the node owners could set the user style for their node only and display a different logo. However, by doing this, on XenForo at least, would be against the terms. The thing would be to get a name for yourself though, if using something other than XF as a base.

Heroel - A... project?
I mean, this isn't a bad start. This is exactly how my text-based game looked when I soft-launched, except I launched it within a container at least and with another font (some coloring) and a logo. As I grew, so did the layout and functionality. I learned PHP as a procedural programming language (PHP3), and when they introduced classes in PHP4 (I believe), is when I started to get lost, as I came from a Visual Basic 3 background. However, I managed to grasp that. Now, it's object-oriented and it looks like a foreign language to me with $this->function()->that = function(asdf); or whatever. So, I hope you're learning it as object-oriented and using it that way, with hooks to add in features so you don't need to rebuild an entire module (like the gym) if you just want to add a bench press to the mix or something. I take that back. I at least validated emails and hashed passwords for storage as a dumbass, I passed passwords in the URL string for about a month or two before I learned sessions/cookies. Anyone could've accessed anyone's account if they shared a link, but they wouldn't have been able to change the password.

If I am writing a very detailed post, I will use proper paragraphs when needed. My writing style will have to shift, otherwise you would be extremely lost if I continued without creating a new paragraph. This afternoon, I'm going to see if we can get pizza. See? It just doesn't make sense, even in short posts. Forum (nodes, or whatever you want to call them) could be individual blogs if you set the permissions to "post new thread" on registered to "no" on every one of them, but gave a specific user that permission, for as long as the software would allow you. Then you could essentially host free blogs...

What Hasn't Been An Forum Subject/project yet?
I'd like to experience wearing your foot skin like socks, if at all possible. I'm sure that would be a great article to kickstart the forum!

What Hasn't Been An Forum Subject/project yet?
I'll have to admit that I rush to register the new phrases; I've yet to be the first at a popular one though. You can catch a real winner... Take Covid-19.com for example [iCODE]Registered On 2020-02-11T15:13:12Z[/iCODE]. The person who picked that up could've easily flipped it for 6 figures within a month, and maybe had a 7-figure silent bidding war between Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J within 4-6 months. Now? It's pretty much worthless. You could probably set up an informative site on it and make a couple hundred bucks a month, but nothing like what you could've done with a flip. (Edit: I'm sure one of the 3 would still offer 6 figures for it just because they're going to continually sell boosters). There are also sometimes domains used in movies that aren't registered, and getting it before someone else can get immediate traffic. Traffic = money, if you know what you're doing with it. Those are just two examples of things that pop up that can be immensely profitable, whether you park it or sell it, in the short term. You definitely don't want to hold the bag (unless it was a movie reg that might get you 10000~ visitors rushing in each month until it dwindles down) on something like Covid-19 though.

I mean, I still need to make the announcement post on the forum. Care to share some skin so I can share my experience? :ROFLMAO:

I track domains that I want to purchase, and can certainly say that I've come across some weird fetish forum domains that go to auction. The last one, I had to look up the word for. That being said, it was a word [i forgot] that was the enjoyment of wearing other people's skin [word]forum.com. I don't know if it ended up expiring, or what, but someone had the bright idea to register the domain in the first place. I don't know if they were freak enough to put it to use, or thought someone else might, but it's certainly the oddest fetish forum domain that I ran across. Suffice it to say, I did not bid on it...

MEGA pack order for Month of November 1-30
Who is @theearner? It seems they are unfamiliar with Elasticsearch and aren't aware that they're posting similar (exact) threads, as if they've generated a list of talking points on the same AI as another writer (may or may not have), copied and pasted a title in, and ignored the drop-down of topics already being discussed. This is not making discussions any more diverse... If you're making a thread just for the sake of making a thread, and can't come up with a unique idea, I'd much rather you post as a post with an engaging opinion and just mark it as a thread. There should be no reason for double/triple posting threads with Elasticsearch running giving you thread suggestions. You can easily see it's been discussed already. I'd suggest all writers combine their thread titles/topics/whatever (of Administrata) into a spreadsheet (100s to 1000s of them), and then copy that spreadsheet over for each forum requesting writing. Then, each contributor could have access to the sheet and "claim" which thread they're going to create, create it, mark it done for that forum, and move on to the next topic, else you're going to have duplicates again and again.

Can't this go for communities too, big and small? Groups tend to favor individuals, whether they be senior members or staff members. Now, while it might be more than 1 person, I have been a part of a community where the most favored was 1 person (a big board), and the brand was essentially him, until a scandal. This is more or less, now, a blog post though. The presentation of the thread layout gave the author the more prominent byline and whatnot, but the fact remains the same, you're still on a forum.

This is probably the main factor in deciphering the two because the target audience surely overlaps, be it few-to-many or many-to-many.

Shower thought. Surely, internet boards came first...

Requiring Strong Passwords
They can have whatever password they want. If they want password, so be it. Just don't complain when your account is "hacked". Spamming will be picked up on pretty quickly and the account will be locked, so there are no worries there. Only on a professional forum (in the works) will require it because it'll have more sensitive information, and only if the team leader requires it of their collaborators. I have hard-delete set to NEVER, and that can only be changed one way: Through me, physically, and a passkey. So I have no problem worrying about data loss through the ACP. Good luck getting onto the server to change anything. But, if you do, there are backups in place where some content can be lost, but very minimal. Probably only allow people you trust ACP/Admin access and grant them specific privileges within it. I'm unsure about other forum software, but XenForo will let me disallow a moderator from doing anything from managing bans, or an administrator from managing user groups, if those people don't need to. If I need a 3rd party developer to debug a style, I will only grant them "Manage styles, style properties, and templates" for the time they need, and on a development instance, to port over once it's done. There's no need for them to manage users, etc., if you get the point.

What's the first social media site you used?
MySpace. It fell apart after Tom left. Now, I'm stuck with the Zucc (Facebook).

What's your moderation style?
Formerly RealShit, now ROFLMAO, was founded on the principle of free speech. Be Funny. Be Serious. Be You. You can't "be you" if you are confined to a box of rules, which go against the principles of free speech. No words are censored. That said, users can tread on the following "harassment and bullying" rule with certain attacks using certain words. This would require friendly intervention the first time, an official 72-hour ban the second time, and a full-on ban if it continues (there are ways I have to check sock accounts without shared IPs, etc., but it'd apply to them too). We just have 5 fundamental rules for our mature section (which are still applicable to the forum): No Illegal or Illicit Content Explicit Content and Moderator Discretion No Harassment or Bullying No Doxxing Age Verification (legal age for mature content in the user's country). These cross into legal territory, and once is enough for a ban, except for the "moderator discretion" rule (which would require a friendly PM or two before it becomes an issue). After I finalize incorporation, I'm going to solidify these rules as more of a Terms of Service with my lawyer for Section 230 protection. Further, I'm going to follow in the footsteps of Twitter/X and require any legal disputes to be brought before the courts in the state of incorporation so that it chops down on legal fees, if there's ever an issue. This works for ROFLMAO because users can control the content they want to see and the content they don't want to see by blocking forums and even specific threads. If there's not a feature readily available to censor words for users, it's on the to-do list to implement a "block naughty words" feature when (and if) I see expletives thrown around too much.

Why do people buy forums and just leave them to die?
A forum I abandoned that had 500 solid messages/50 articles was making $30-50 a month for several months before repurposing the license. Now that I have a new licenses, I might boot it back up in "read only" just for supplemental investment income for another license or further development. As little as it is, it's still profit on the books. Multiply that by 20 forums you just let die and it's still a pretty good passive income stream.

MEGA pack order for Month of November 1-30
Can Mara not copy and paste news articles with sources? https://www.roflmao.com/threads/blue-jays-acquire-andres-gimenez.1419/ I'm paying for original content and/or thought provoking opinions. If you have something to add to the article, great, but not just the article. Same with video descriptions: https://www.roflmao.com/threads/slime-heroes.1420/ https://in.ign.com/slime-heroes/220975/video/slime-heroes-official-release-date-trailer-latin-american-games-showcase I can post news articles if I wanted to, and do, and allow some to do — but they're not compensated for it. Thanks

RealShit: Unfiltered Discussions [Deleted]
With the launch of our new forum for discussing controversial topics like politics and religion, we’re giving you more control over the content you see on ROFLMAO. You can now hide entire forums or specific threads, allowing you to curate your experience without ignoring users. This way, you can still engage with others in areas you’re comfortable with while avoiding content you’d rather not see.

How much longer can Facebook stay relevant?
They're good at copying. But, are they good at user retention? I believe Threads reported something like 275 million users. However, what formula are they using for that? Did they pump Instagram accounts into it? Does viewing a Threads post from a Facebook feed include them as a Threads user? I don't trust that number. I'm probably going to enter a long-term short in Meta as I believe they have peaked and there is no more innovation for growth.

Php 8.4 has been released: What’s new
So it's essentially going to skip the [iCODE]implode()[/iCODE] (or other means) function if you request it as a pretty string instead?

Php 8.4 has been released: What’s new
Would you still be able to get an array or would you need to convert that to an array? Is it more of asking how you wanted it presented instead of only given the option (that I know of) to get an array?

Domains you don't know what to do with?
If they pursue it, privacy protection is released in a UDRP. So, your name will forever live on, and be a stain to your reputation. https://www.adrforum.com/DomainDecisions/1964713.htm
