I've only seen this done on XenForo, if you were around during that awful announcement 🙁 [ATTACH type=full" size="135x184]240[/ATTACH] And one other forum with a long-time member (15+ years). I'm unsure how the admins handled it beyond a public-facing takeover, whether they handed the account off to a next-of-kin, etc. or just locked it down.

That's kind of how I feel too, but from the perspective of someone looking in, whether they know we have that relationship and whether they don't know?

To me, it kind of feels fake to interact with someone that I know in person over a forum. Say the guy makes a joke, and he shared it with me first. I already had my reaction to it with him. It feels fake to then again, try and recreate that authentic reaction on the forum when he makes it public. The same for memes, etc., as he'll dump a lot to me in private and post some to the forum. Sometimes, I'll steal those and post them before he does, if he does, as I'm kind of also pulling his chain to get him to participate as a friend to forum build. How would you handle it? Do you think it would make for a better community if I engaged with him on the forum in about the same manner that I already did in private, or, if you knew we were friends in person, would you feel it's inauthentic to do so?

I learned this after about my 50th social media post. The post gave too much information where you didn't even need to visit the site. I changed the posting approach and clicks went from 10s to 100s (with just shy of 10000 followers as I did advertising to gain them quicker than the site grew—easy with a geo-forum to know my target audience and get maximum followers for the least money). Not many joined, but it did increase my AdSense revenue.

Facebook and the users might've physically matured, but they have the same mentality as when they joined. They've already made an attempt to copy Twitter with Threads after Elon bought it. Prior to that, it was copying TikTok with Reels and I think disappearing messages copied from Snapchat too. They can no longer innovate, they can only copy or buy. Where's their talent team? What are you talking about? I pass the time in the comments section of some group's posts. They make the post 1000x funnier. 🤣

I miss what little I had with mine so much as I was in sales and then in warehousing as a full-time student to power through my bachelor's and MBA in 36 months (60-80 hour work weeks away from home), sometimes staying overnight at a hotel cause the drive home would've been too dangerous, until she was about 3 or 4. Now, she's a bratty 13-year-old teen who just asked (asked is putting it lightly for a teenage girl) to get her hair straightened. And, of course, she got her way. I've spoiled her since day 1, even though I wasn't present for the good times. I just hope that'll pay off when I'm older and in need.

A prime example of how you can kill a GREAT domain that probably has a lot of type-ins and user engagement on a forum by adding Discord can be WTF.com. They used to also have a good way to monetize the forum by allowing you to purchase GMail-backed @wtf.com email addresses. Side note: I use my domain @ROFLMAO.com for email. :-P

Infinite scroll in a thread with 20000 replies gets you hooked on it for hours. It takes a while to catch up and then even more time to go back and get some questions addressed that you think were missed in the post.

As I'm developing my directory, I'm seeing a lot more new forums that are Discourse. I'm also a member of a very large Discourse forum, so it's comfortable for me to use. It feels more like social media and traditional forums thrown in a blender. I'm kind of hoping XenForo is taking notes from it, and other successful mediums, for XF 3.

I'll enjoy that countdown more after November 6 (22 days) when I won't be subjected to so many political ads and nonsense that come across my feed every other post...

Would you handle antiwhiteism the same way? I find, especially on social media, that it's ok to be racist against white people because "you can't be racist against white people" (the literal excuse). There's also slurs in some communities where it's acceptable to use "cis white male" (in a derogatory manner) and it not be racist.

Or you could do two (or 3~) at a time per month, depending on how large this community grows to check out other communities that may go unrecognized because it's so niche. Definitely yes. No peeking either. 🤣 I would suggest against this because it could contradict the anonymous voting with the added weight, unless the group gives an expert/logical reason to their decision, not only for transparency, but also to be as a teaching tool if other communities like the voted feedback.

Could you see why other countries might try? And, with what we've seen with C-19, can you really discount our own country doing it? The government spends money for aid, but it's not their money, it's our money, and they have no problem spending our money. I would have to get really conspiratorial on why another country (say Russia, that is in the area of Florida and Cuba) might want to do it, or even our own country, this close to November 6 (election day) might want to do it to a swing state.

I'm not terribly concerned about how large the file is or how much it lags. I highly doubt Google will penalize you if their own software causes issues on your site. I've never had lagging issues, due to Analytics, that I can tell. All my scores are A+ (GMetrix) or 99-100 PageSpeed. I plug in my Analytics tracking code in XenForo and forget about it. So pretty much brought back the WordPress "ping" feature... Interesting. I'll have to check it out and see if there's an XF add on to notify of new content.

I've been using it since it was Webmaster Tools. It's very insightful, but much better with a layer of Analytics as you can see time spent on a page, their next move, etc. and essentially make a flow map of where one might go next on a new piece of content.

Unless you use Analytics to see where users are spending their most time so that you can focus on developing that out more. There are huge advantages to getting to know how users use your site, and Analytics (apart from Cloudflare, which I'm not too certain of) is one way to understand what users on your site want alongside Google Search Console. Google Search Console can tell you what they came for, but Analytics tells you what they stayed for, and for how long, giving you a better idea of what to focus on.
