1. The .com still has the reputation of being professional or verified for its associated site. We've seen niche domains like .gg or .io come about, but their future existence is up in the air.
2. I haven't kept track which I know I should do but, let's say that it's a lot.
3. 2TonWaffle https://2tonwaffle.com The 2TonWaffle Community is an online forum dedicated to indie gaming, alternative platforms, and independent content creation. The community aims to provide a space for like-minded individuals to discuss, learn, and share experiences on niche topics.
4. It's difficult enough to come up with a name for your forum itself, the categories are another matter by itself. What is your process in generating the names for your different categories? Do you spend a large amount of time going through this or simply just giving it a generic name?
5. Discord is a private/open service that you to freely create a server within the service. You don't have any access to the behind-the-scenes stuff, except for general admin options. Discord is essentially a black hole of knowledge, you put stuff in and the rest of the world has no access to it unless they become part of your Discord server.
6. Added the affiliate icon to my site
7. What everyone has said is completely spot on. It's harder to get an audience to focus on forums when they're constantly being distracted by Discord and other social media. The thinking in that you'll have a somewhat active community in about a year or so is probably much longer now, maybe even closer to 5 or 7 years.
8. Been a Hover customer for over a decade now. Decent pricing and never had any issues with them either. I do have a domain over on Namecheap as it was the lowest price at the time, I might bring it over to Hover sometime in the future though. I like to consolidate things, which makes organizing better.
9. I've been playing around with the Beta for the past few days, and it's much more improved from v4. I'm loving the new Pages builder, making things so much easier to get something setup without having to use a plugin for it.
10. Out of curiosity, I was looking at some alternatives and Craft CMS, Webflow, and October seem to be just as capable for people who would want to look into Wordpress-like features. There's also Ghost which is more focused on blogging and newsletter publications.
11. The best thing that can happen is for Matt to cease all communications via written, interviews, and replies. The only person who has damaged the Wordpress community is him. The trust for plugin and theme devs is being eroded as Matt can make the sole decision in whether a popular plugin can/will be taken over by Wordpress. The longer this goes on, many freelancer clients and the agencies who rely on Wordpress will start to look into other CMSs as the single point of instability, Matt, can cause so much damage.
12. WordPress as a whole (talking about the open-source .org) will be fine as it's open source but, Matt is not making his case easy with claiming that WPEngine is confusing potential customers. They're already confused when you search up the term WordPress and you're presented with the .com and the .org, those of us in the know but everyone else isn't sure from the very start. Seeing how so many have left the company Automaticc tends to reflect that just like any large corporation, there is an underlying toxic environment. Matt's actions lately, make it seem that he's a difficult person to work under. I wouldn't be surprised in there's a potential for the board of directors to pressure Matt to resign, as the overall public perception of WordPress is being soured by this one person's actions.
13. I tend to not see what software a forum uses, only that it's easily navigated through and is active. A lot of times through is a certain "flavor" in that forums seem to take on. A large number of categories that many newer forums tend to go with instead of the oft-suggested to not do that. The not-so-often-used software like Flarum, NodeBB, or even Discourse has been growing in use lately, but not as much as Xenforo or IC. I think many dismiss a forum when they use phpBB or MyBB as something lessor than what is out there or even antiqued.

I love Xenforo for what it is but I decided on using IC as it provided me more built into the software and not having to purchase addons and plugins. Didn't want to spend more time working on the backend instead of creating content.
