Rebranding and Merging: The Hot Trend in Communities?
One area I think not covered often is in the process of before the merger/rebrand. Did one person reach out to the other forum owner in wanting to merge the two? Would the benefit of letting your forum go, to be merged into another effect your willingness of creating another forum down the line or do you tend to stick around in the new merged forums?

Rebranding and Merging: The Hot Trend in Communities?
Would constant rebranding eventually lead to member confusion? Unless the forum was in its early days than I would think that would be an issue.

Wordpress VS WP Engine
His responses have been on the "I'm the victim here guys" tone, trying to portray this nice guy persona. I'm really hoping in that after the court case is done that he goes into the pre-economic Matt or even gets booted off the "board". I put board within quotes as he pretty much controls it all.

Wordpress VS WP Engine
Oh, I know. Was just having a bit of fun. Anyways, this action by Matt (and we all know that Matt is behind it) is extremely petty and very unprofessional for a system used by 40% of websites on the internet. I'm really hoping that this brings about more actions against Matt during the actual court case.

Do Ads Ruin the Integrity of Online Communities?
Old enough to remember the beginning of the pop-up ads that ruined everything. Thoughtfully placed ads that don't detract from the rest of the forum would be fine and if it's relevant to the overall theme of the forums. Of course going overboard with ads will definitely have me closing the tabs faster than anything.

Best Non-Self-Hosted Forum Software
Was seriously thinking of moving to the cloud myself Sinistra Sensei it's the fact of the pricing I was getting stuck on. True in that you would no longer have to deal with the backend admin stuff but still, $99 per month for what I currently use is a bit much.

What forum software are you currently running on?
Been with Ic community for awhile now and enjoying the experience of it. The Pages feature is even more improved with the v5 update and the only thing I'm disappointed in was the removal of the source code feature. It was where you could enter the HTML code of say something like, iframes, which I did with embedding the Owncast video and chat feed into the site as a new page. Other than that, I've been doing some experimenting with some page setups. Ultimately I don't want to have so many things going on within the forums that whole sections are being left to rot without any interactions.

The 2TonWaffle
The item [plain]The 2TonWaffle[/plain] has been updated: Have updated the forums to Invision Community v5 as I felt that the current betas are stable enough for a production site. I have made several changes to the overall look of the forums and continuing to make the category image selections a bit better looking.

WoltLab Suite Discussion
I had looked into WoltLab before but, I was already fully invested in with XF and IC. On the whole ecosystem looks quite nice and is a bit cheaper for the self-hosted and even for the cloud hosted options as well.

Chat GPT surpassed Bing's traffic in August.
We're seeing more people shifting to using ChatGPT more. Google's search is continuing to be enshitfied as the search results are becoming worse and worse. People are getting tired of it and are looking for alternatives, which so happens to be ChatGPT as many of them are already using it for other purposes.

Is Publicly Shaming Rule-Breakers a Good approach?
It depends if the offender is the owner of an establishment locally that did something offensive or was serving bad food, then that could be a reason to name and shame. If this person was causing a disruption within your community and broke so many rules that caused you to ban them, then I would just quietly ban them and send them a DM or let them know privately. There's no reason to prop up their ban publicly as it could foster others that saw this person as a influence. The Streisand effect would come into play.

How hard do you find it to build a target audience?
The challenge of the independent creator and gaming space is that many potential members are fully ingrained in places like Discord or social networks, that trying to bring them into a forum is pretty daunting.

Why do people buy forums and just leave them to die?
Add in the ad placements as many times the forum becomes inundated with ads than it was before the buy out.

Best Non-Self-Hosted Forum Software
I've dabble a bit with Mighty Networks as they offer similar features and services as Circle. It's not bad if you have a community set up or in the midst of rapid growth. I found it to be useful for those that offered courses as well as keeping the community organized within one spot and, its not a Facebook group. Just looking back on their prices and wow, they have increased the pricing of the Community plan by like $20 per month to $50 per month.

Creating fake members to jumpstart community: yay or nay?
I could see how it could've been a benefit many, many years ago but, as it was mentioned before. People can see through the fake account like a window. It's hard enough to create and find the content for posting, let alone control several false accounts just to make the place feel alive. That's putting more work on yourself that isn't needed.
